Senior Field Service Specialist - EV Job Summary: Performs complex electrical apparatus work onsite at customer’s facilities. This includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs to electrical apparatus. Responsible for troubleshooting, training, establishing LOTO, interacting with customers, report writing, etc. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Execute mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities. Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and write diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems. Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation. Lead the following tasks: Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance. Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, tandelta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper. Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing. Test both electrical‑mechanical and solid‑state relays. Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment. Plan, participate, and develop safety meetings and training. Support management in the planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Familiar with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations. Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems. Strong communication and problem‑solving skills. Strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines. Ability to work independently, while utilizing excellent judgement. Double DTAF and Power DB knowledge preferred (training will be provided). Demonstrated punctuality for daily work assignments, meetings, training, etc. Organizational skills for timely reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and any other documentation and reporting requirements. Responsibility to keep tools, test equipment, and vehicles clean, organized, and up to date with service and calibrations. Willingness to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office. Ability to work during business hours (Monday‑Friday, 7:30am‑4:30pm) and outside of business hours as required. Ability to work overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays. Ability to travel on overnight, multi‑day, out‑of‑town projects. Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies promptly. Education and Work Experience: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Electrical / Electronic Technology preferred; Military experience preferred but not required. At least 10 years of experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning. Ability to achieve NETA level III or IV within 6 months of employment. Project management experience and ability to support management in the planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects. Additional Requirements: Pass a pre‑employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check. Pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol test, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing. Valid driver’s license and willing to obtain endorsement for a vehicle weight up to 26k lbs. Ability to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs. Willing to obtain company‑paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
