Responsibilities

Summary:

The Groundskeeper effectively maintains the outside grounds of the facility by moving soil, equipment, and materials, digging holes, mowing grass, and removing trash.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Groundskeeper digs holes for plants and trees.
• The Groundskeeper mixes fertilizer or lime with dirt in bottom of holes to enrich soil, places plants or trees in holes, and adds dirt to fill holes.
• Attaches or removes wires from planted trees to stakes to support trees.
• Loads and unloads trucks and other conveyances.
• Moves supplies and materials to proper location by wheelbarrow or hand truck. Hauls or spreads topsoil.
• Waters lawns, trees, and plants.
• Spreads straw over seeded soil to prevent movement of seed and soil.
• Builds forms for concrete borders.
• Mixes and pours cement for garden borders.
• Places decorative stones and plants flowers in garden areas.
• Mows lawns.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• One (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training in a janitorial or groundskeeper capacity.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
