PLUMBER

Position Summary Under the direction of an assigned supervisor and/or lead, performs journey-level work in the installation and maintenance of plumbing fixtures and systems. Responsibilities Install, maintain, repair, regulate, replace, and test plumbing lines, fixtures, fittings, and equipment using hand and power tools in accordance with building and safety code requirements. Purchase parts and equipment for installation, maintenance, repair, and service of plumbing systems according to established procedures. Diagnose malfunctions and determine repair needs of plumbing lines, fixtures, fittings, and equipment. Maintain routine records related to work performed and materials used in the installation and maintenance of plumbing lines and equipment. Plan, organize, and lay out work using blueprints, drawings, and sketches. Respond to emergency plumbing problems and perform necessary repairs. Clean and clear sewer mains, drains, toilets, urinals, sinks, and grease traps in accordance with code requirements. Communicate with administrators, staff, or other skilled maintenance personnel regarding plumbing issues, work orders, project requirements, and updates. Perform a variety of skilled maintenance duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of District buildings and facilities as assigned. Provide work direction and guidance to other employees or temporary workers on special projects in the specialty area as assigned. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school graduation or equivalent. Two years of journey-level plumbing experience. Valid California Class C Driver's License and insurable under the District's insurance carrier for liability purposes. Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position. Working Conditions Employees work both inside and outside, in changing temperatures, with sharp objects and moving parts, fumes, dust, chemicals, toxic materials, explosive substances, strong odors, loud noises, vibrations, and in the absence of direct supervision.
