About the Role

Packaging Exchange is a national packaging and distribution company operating 25 locations across North America with a team of 400+. The Warehouse Supervisor runs the floor on an assigned shift or functional area, turning the daily plan into completed work across receiving, put-away, picking, packing, shipping, and inventory counts. This role typically leads 8 to 20 hourly warehouse team members and reports to the Operations Manager or General Manager, who owns the branch.

Drivers assigned to the branch report directly to the Operations Manager or General Manager. The Warehouse Supervisor coordinates with drivers on dock and load activity but does not supervise them.

We are looking for strong leadership and multitasking skills, a bias for safety, and the ability to handle high-volume operations while fostering a positive work environment and delivering friendly, exceptional customer service. What This Role Owns

•    Assigning work and distributing workload across the shift to hit daily cutoffs.

•    Resequencing priorities hour by hour as volume, carrier schedules, and staffing change.

•    Dock and door assignments, load sequencing, and confirming load accuracy and paperwork before a truck leaves.

•    Coaching, on-the-job training, and documenting performance and attendance concerns for warehouse team members.

•    Shift start and end routines: staging, housekeeping, equipment condition checks, and shift handoff.

•    First response on safety incidents and near misses, including securing the area and notifying the Operations Manager / General Manager immediately.

What This Role Escalates

All of the following go to the Operations Manager or General Manager. The Supervisor recommends but does not decide.

•    Hiring, corrective action beyond coaching, and any change to a team member's status.

•    Schedule changes, added shifts, and staffing shortfalls.

•    Anything involving a driver: performance, attendance, hours, delays, accidents, vehicle condition, or route changes. Drivers report to the Operations Manager / General Manager, not to this role.

•    Any spend, equipment repair beyond routine, or vendor issue.

•    Customer commitments, service exceptions, and pricing or billing questions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

•    Execute the daily labor plan on the warehouse floor, including staff assignments and workload distribution, under the direction of the Operations Manager / General Manager.

•    Support day-to-day warehouse operations, including receiving, shipping, warehousing, and inventory counting and control.

•    Own shift coverage: confirm attendance at start of shift, redistribute work when the crew is short, and report gaps to the Operations Manager / General Manager.

•    Coordinate with drivers and the branch administrative team on dock assignments, load sequencing, and departure times, so trucks leave complete and on time.

•    Execute cycle counts on schedule and ensure warehouse system transactions are entered accurately and in real time, so on-hand quantities and locations reflect what is physically on the floor.

•    Enforce established safety protocols and ensure all warehouse staff follow state and federal regulations; report safety concerns to the Operations Manager / General Manager.

•    Verify that only certified personnel operate powered industrial equipment before each shift begins.

•    Maintain clear communication with the Operations Manager / General Manager and warehouse staff to ensure smooth daily workflow.

•    Follow and uphold quality assurance protocols as established by management.

•    Monitor existing warehouse processes and procedures and provide improvement feedback to the Operations Manager / General Manager.

•    Ensure warehouse tasks and assignments are completed accurately and on schedule.

•    Train warehouse employees on their duties and the inventory system as directed by the Operations Manager / General Manager.

Team Flexibility & Cross-Functional Support

Warehouse operations center on three core functions: powered material handling (forklift), order picking and packing, and production assembly. To keep the branch running through daily volume swings, all warehouse team members are expected to cross-train and pitch in across these functions based on workload, regardless of their primary role.

•    Order picking (on foot): every warehouse team member is expected to help pick orders without operating a forklift, as workload requires.

•    Production assembly & kitting: support assembly and kitting tasks based on daily workload.

•    E-commerce fulfillment: assist with e-commerce orders at facilities where applicable.

•    Powered equipment (restricted): forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and other powered industrial equipment may be operated ONLY by certified personnel and designated trainees under direct supervision. Team members must NOT operate a forklift or electric pallet jack without current certification.

How Success Is Measured

•    Order accuracy on the assigned shift.

•    On-time pick and pack against daily carrier cutoffs, and on-time truck departure.

•    Cycle count and inventory location accuracy.

•    Recordable safety incidents, plus near-miss reporting participation from the crew.

•    Actual labor hours versus the shift plan.

Requirements & Qualifications

•    High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

•    Three to five years of warehouse supervision experience in a similar role preferred.

•    Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Outlook, and Word, and with a warehouse management system (WMS) or ERP. Accurate, real-time transaction entry is a core part of this job.

•    General warehouse, distribution, and logistics experience required.

•    Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate to senior management, vendors, and customers.

•    Results-oriented with strong attention to detail.

•    Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.

•    Highly organized with the ability to shift quickly from priority to priority.

•    Demonstrated ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

•    Familiarity with local routing and dispatch.

•    Experience in a multi-shift or multi-customer distribution environment.

Physical Requirements

•    Physical ability to stand for extended periods and to lift, push, pull, and handle 10–50 lbs as needed for the operation.

•    A typical day includes walking and moving throughout the warehouse in a fast-paced environment.

•    Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
