Job Summary:

The Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) provides direct services to clients with mental health and/or substance use disorders. This role involves assessment, counseling, case management, and developing individualized service plans to support clients in achieving their recovery goals. The QMHP ensures services are delivered in compliance with the standards set by Virginia's Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). Neighborhood Community Services is offering a $750 sign-on bonus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Life-Skills Coaching and Support:
  Provide person-centered life-skills coaching to help individuals develop and strengthen daily living skills, emotional regulation, problem-solving abilities, and healthy coping strategies. Support clients in areas such as scheduling, organization, communication, hygiene, social skills, and accessing community resources, while encouraging independence, self-advocacy, and recovery-oriented goals..
• Service Planning:
  Develop and implement individualized service plans (ISP) tailored to the needs of each client. Regularly review and update plans based on client progress.
• Psycho-Educational Sessions and Support:
  Facilitate structured psycho-educational sessions and skill-building activities that help individuals better understand their symptoms, recognize triggers, and develop healthy coping strategies. Provide guidance, coaching, and interactive activities that promote emotional awareness, problem-solving, communication, relapse prevention, and overall wellness.
• Care Coordination:
  Coordinate care and services for clients, including referrals to other services and community resources. Maintain regular communication with clients, families, and support networks.
• Documentation:
  Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, service plans, progress notes, and other required records in accordance with DBHDS regulations and agency policies.
• Crisis Intervention:
  Respond to clients experiencing crises, providing de-escalation, safety planning, and immediate support. Coordinate with crisis response teams when necessary.
• Collaboration:
  Work closely with other professionals, including psychiatrists, therapists, and social workers, to ensure a holistic approach to client care. Participate in team meetings and case reviews.

Qualifications:

• Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Counseling) required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Must meet the DBHDS requirements for a QMHP-A (Qualified Mental Health Professional-Adult) or QMHP-C (Qualified Mental Health Professional-Child), which include specific coursework and supervised experience.
• Licensure/Certification:
  • Must be registered as a QMHP-T with the Virginia Board of Counseling.
  • Maintain active registration and complete continuing education requirements as specified by Virginia regulations.
• Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Strong assessment, counseling, and crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

• Ability to travel within the community to meet with clients and attend meetings.
• Ability to sit, stand for extended periods.
• Ability to perform general daily tasks. The QMHP works in various settings, including office environments, community settings, and clients' homes. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet client needs.
