Manager, Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting

Align Technology, Inc. is a medical device company engaged in the design, manufacture, and marketing of Invisalign, a proprietary method of straightening teeth without wires and brackets. We wish to supplement our accounting team with a strong leader, who will be detail oriented and has proven abilities in preparing clear and concise documentation for SEC filings and technical accounting positions. He/she should be a self-starter with critical thinking skills combined with a high-energy personality and a personal sense of flexibility and humor to adapt to the quick reporting cycle. This position will manage the external reporting requirements.In this role, you will… Assist with the timely preparation and filing of company annual and periodic SEC filings on Forms 10-K and 10-Q, including development of timeline, gathering of data, updates to document, and coordination of review and approvals and review of XBRL taggingTimely preparation and filing of other SEC filings on Forms 8-K and the annual proxy statement Preparation and review of quarterly earnings press releases and financial statements, earnings conference call scripts and other financial data summariesPreparation of the statement of cash flowsEvaluating and analyzing stock-based compensation expenseBe responsible for analyzing the disclosures of competitors or other medical device companies in order to improve consistency and comparabilityWorking with legal, investor relations and management to assess potential changes or improvements to the company’s footnote disclosuresReviewing lease contracts, preparing journal entries and reconciling the lease accounts in accordance with ASC 842Monitor equity award (RSU, MSU, PSU, ESPP) activities to ensure appropriate accounting for modifications, disclosure requirements and documentation in accordance with ASC 718Conducting technical accounting research for new transactions and preparing position papers as necessaryProviding technical accounting training to the accounting team as neededCommunicating and interacting with auditors, including ensuring the timely delivery of all “prepared by client” requests for the financial reporting teamThe accounting for the Company’s investment portfolio accounted for at fair value, including ensuring proper balance sheet classification and SEC disclosuresPreparing the earnings per share calculation on a quarterly basisPreparing the statement of stockholders equity rollforwardPerforming the Company’s annual impairment testing for Goodwill and Intangible AssetsAnalyzing and reviewing the Company’s Segment ReportingEnsuring SOX 404 compliance for areas of responsibility including the documentation and review of accounting policies and procedures.Perform other Adhoc duties as needed.In this role, you’ll need … BS in Accounting or equivalent is required (master’s degree preferred)Certified Public Accountant with an “active” status preferred7+ years work experience in Accounting, consisting of the following:3+ years of progressive financial reporting and/or technical accounting experience in publicly traded companies plus 2-3+ year of public accounting experience OR7+ years of public accounting experience (Big 4 preferred)Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC rules and regulationsExperience with eXtensible Business Reporting Language (“XBRL”) tagging preferredExperience with evaluating accounting pronouncements and standardsExperience with preparing position papersExperience with Wdesk preferredExperience with Equity Edge or similar equity award software preferredExperience with AMTdirect or other lease accounting software helpful but not requiredHighly motivated and detail and team orientedExcellent critical thinking and multi-tasking skillsExcellent verbal and written communications skillsAble to effectively manage stress and meet strict deadlinesAble to identify and initiate process improvements with a continuous improvement mindsetAble to shift priorities based on the changing needs of the company Ability to work across all workstreams including, but not limited to, regional and corporate finance, HR, investor relations, legal, internal and external audit teams to collaborate, resolve issues and fulfill requests on a timely basisDepartmentFinance / AccountingEmployment TypeFull TimeWorkplace typeHybrid
