What You'll Do

The Registered Professional Nurse IV, Acute Care is accountable for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process. The RN assesses, plans, delivers, coordinates, integrates, and evaluates nursing care related to patient's needs. The RN contributes to the support of patients through interdisciplinary teamwork. RN IV is accountable to assure that the care provided is consistent with applicable standards, regulations, statutes and state, federal law. RN IV serves as a resource for other staff and clinicians as required.

The RN IV provides leadership to department staff, serving as a resource and mentor. The RN IV contributes to the body of professional nursing practice through participation in research, committee work, and professional organizations, internal and external.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provides nursing care and services to patients throughout the life span and in various settings consistent with educational preparation.
  • Collects, analyzes and records relevant patient health data accurately.
  • Analyzes assessment data to identify patient problems.
  • Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient.
  • Develops a plan of care that describes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements and records interventions appropriate to diagnosis or patient problem.
  • Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of identified goals.
  • Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards.
  • Directs and supervises patient care provided by LPNs and support personnel.
  • Demonstrates consideration of safety, effective utilization of equipment and materials, and cost in managing patient care.
  • Acts effectively as charge nurse, group leader or preceptor when assigned.
  • Writes a progress note that demonstrates an understanding of the patient's status and progress toward achievement of goals.
  • Effectively precepts new staff members or students.
  • Ability to function in charge nurse or leadership capacity.
  • Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient's autonomy, dignity and rights.
  • Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity.
  • Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures.
  • Acts on behalf of patients in an ethical manner.
  • Adheres to ANA Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice.
  • Provides proof of current licensure validation to supervisor.
  • Completes required unit credentialing according to departmental policy.
  • Provides to supervisor evidence of completion of all required training and competency validation.
  • Participates in level appropriate number of hours of educational activity.
  • Demonstrates clinical problem-solving ability.
  • Participates in quality improvement processes.
  • Provides two required annual in-services for coworkers.
  • Demonstrates operational problem-solving ability.
  • Coordinates performance improvement initiative.
  • Develops and evaluates systems for orienting new staff and students.
  • Contributes to the body of nursing knowledge through use of research and participation in professional practice committees and organizations.
  • Participates in nursing research.
  • Commits to an attitude of inquiry, research-based practice, and the advancement of nursing science.
  • Helps to identify clinical problems requiring investigation.
  • Assists in the collection of data within a structured format.
  • Partners with senior nurses to use research findings in clinical practice.
  • Identifies clinical problems requiring investigation.
  • Influences data collection methods, collects data and implements research findings.
  • Serves as a clinical expert assisting investigators.
  • Uses research findings in clinical practice.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

What We Need From You

Education:

  • 4 year / Bachelor's degree in Nursing, preferred
  • Master's degree in Nursing, preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of Registered Nurse experience, 3 years must be in relevant practice area, required
  • Must be able to perform as preceptor, required
  • Minimum 2 years Registered Nurse experience in relevant practice area, if Education is BSN or MSN, required

License/Certification:

  • Current NYS license as a RN required for all education levels, required
  • BLS certification will be required within 6 months
  • Other certifications may be needed based on department requirements

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • Occasional balancing, climbing, crouching, kneeling, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching
  • Frequent fit testing
  • Constant typing, grasping, hearing, repetitive motion, seeing/ monitor/ computer use, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking

Hazards:

  • Occasional radiation/radiant energy
  • Frequent: bodily fluids/bloodborne exposure

Working Conditions:

Travel:

  • Occasional Travel - The job may require travel from time-to-time, but not on a regular basis

We are also offering a sign-on bonus for this position! The bonus amounts are based on the position type and are listed below. Additional details and eligibility requirements will be discussed during the interview process. Current employees of Bassett Healthcare Network are not eligible and are encouraged to apply through the internal job board. At the discretion of leadership, this program may terminate or be suspended at any time.

  • RN (excluding management) sign-on bonuses are awarded in the amount of $20,000 for full time
  • LPN sign on bonuses are awarded in the amount of $10,000 for full time
