zTrip, one of the nation's largest transportation providers, is seeking an experienced and people-focused CDL Operations Manager to oversee the recruitment, development, scheduling, performance, and retention of our CDL driver workforce.

This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the success of our drivers while maintaining operational efficiency, service reliability, and safety standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who excels at coaching teams, solving operational challenges, and creating a positive work environment that supports driver success and organizational growth.

Position Summary

As a CDL Operations Manager , you will play a key role in managing daily driver operations while developing strategies to attract, retain, and support a reliable workforce. Working closely with dispatch, safety, maintenance, recruiting, and leadership teams, you will ensure appropriate staffing levels, consistent service delivery, and a culture centered on accountability, engagement, and performance.

Success in this role will be measured through driver retention, operational performance, staffing effectiveness, safety compliance, and team development.

What You'll Do as a CDL Operations Manager:

Driver Recruitment & Workforce Development

• Lead efforts to attract and hire qualified CDL drivers through recruiting events, community outreach, referrals, and industry networking.
• Conduct candidate evaluations, interviews, and hiring recommendations.
• Build and maintain a strong pipeline of potential driver candidates.
• Promote zTrip as an employer of choice within the transportation industry.
• Partner with recruiting teams to meet workforce and growth objectives.
• Develop staffing strategies to ensure adequate operational coverage.

Driver Onboarding & Training

• Oversee the onboarding experience for newly hired drivers.
• Coordinate orientation programs, licensing verification, and training requirements.
• Ensure drivers successfully complete all company and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Serve as a resource for new drivers during their transition into operations.
• Support continuous training and professional development initiatives.

Scheduling & Operational Management

• Manage driver schedules to ensure service commitments are met efficiently.
• Coordinate shift assignments, schedule changes, time-off requests, and coverage needs.
• Monitor workforce availability and staffing levels.
• Resolve scheduling challenges while minimizing disruptions to operations.
• Collaborate with dispatch and operations teams to maximize driver productivity and service performance.

Driver Leadership & Engagement

• Build strong relationships with drivers through regular communication and support.
• Provide coaching and mentorship focused on performance, safety, attendance, and customer service.
• Identify opportunities to improve driver satisfaction, engagement, and retention.
• Recognize outstanding performance and celebrate key achievements.
• Address concerns proactively and work with leadership to identify solutions.
• Foster a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and accountability.

Performance Management

• Monitor key driver performance indicators and operational metrics.
• Conduct performance reviews, ride-alongs, and coaching sessions.
• Provide constructive feedback and support performance improvement plans when necessary.
• Maintain records relating to employee performance, coaching, and development activities.
• Assist with initiatives designed to improve operational effectiveness and service quality.

Safety & Compliance Oversight

• Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and industry safety standards.
• Partner with safety and compliance teams to address incidents, violations, and corrective actions.
• Monitor driver qualifications, certifications, and training requirements.
• Reinforce safe driving practices and operational procedures.
• Promote a culture where safety remains a top organizational priority.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with dispatch, safety, maintenance, recruiting, and leadership teams.
• Participate in workforce planning and staffing forecasts.
• Support operational projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Help achieve company goals related to service quality, operational performance, and growth.

Qualifications of a CDL Operations Manager:

Required

• Valid driver's license.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in transportation, logistics, fleet operations, workforce management, or a related field.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience supervising, coaching, or developing employees.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
• Proficiency with scheduling systems, workforce planning tools, and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred

• CDL Class B or higher.
• Experience recruiting and hiring CDL drivers.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation compliance standards.
• Experience managing schedules, staffing plans, and workforce utilization.
• Previous leadership experience within transportation or fleet operations.
