Senior Financial Manager

General Description of the Role This role manages all aspects of financial planning, accrual oversight, reconciliation, and budget tracking for the company. The role is highly operational in nature, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, aligning accounting records with operational reality, and providing visibility into actuals versus budget. This role collaborates closely with members across functions and with the accounting team, focusing on financial oversight, analysis, and reporting. This role does not perform transactional accounting. Responsibilities Own accrual oversight and tracking for the company, determining required entries based on operational activity, including work completed with CROs, CDMOs, and other vendors. Reconcile invoices, payments, and accounting entries to ensure that expenses are recorded in the correct period. Collaborate closely with operations and project teams to translate work completed, deliverables achieved, and invoices expected into financial planning records. Maintain the company budget model, prepare rolling forecasts, monitor cash runway, and support scenario planning to inform strategic decisions. Track operational spend, including large vendor contracts, R&D programs, and consulting agreements, to ensure proper expense recognition and alignment with budget and operational milestones. Review monthly and quarterly financial statements prepared by the accounting team, verifying that transactions are accurate, appropriately classified, and reflect operational reality. Support preparation of financial reporting materials and summaries for the leadership team, board, and audit committee. Serve as a finance point of contact for external vendors and providers, auditors, and internal operational teams, providing clear guidance and support related to financial data, accruals, and budget alignment. Assist in the preparation of documentation for government filings, tax incentives, or other external reporting requirements in coordination with accounting and operational teams. Skills and Capabilities Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, with the ability to manipulate datasets and produce accurate forecasts, scenario models, and variance analysis. Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail. Highly self-directed and organized, able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment. Structured, methodical approach to ensuring financial accuracy, integrity, and reporting quality. Knowledge of corporate finance and market financial and accounting concepts, proficient in the development of analyses, business models, or operational financial insights. Work Qualifications 5+ years of transferable professional experience in finance or consulting, with significant hands‑on exposure to FP&A, budgeting, and operational finance. Prior experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry or R&D-heavy companies preferred, with familiarity working in fast‑paced environments (start‑up, management consulting, venture capital). Demonstrated experience in Advanced Excel and financial modeling. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practical knowledge of accrual accounting and its application in operational finance. Education Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field preferred. Advanced degrees (e.g., Master's in Finance, Accounting, or MBA) or professional accounting or finance certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA, CA) are a plus but not required.
