Role Description

The Activities Director is a part-time, on-site role located in Lake Zurich, IL, responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing a comprehensive recreation and activities program for our residents. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing residents’ interests and abilities, developing activity calendars, and coordinating therapeutic recreation, social events, and community outings that support engagement, skill-building, and quality of life. The role involves supervising volunteers, ensuring programs are safely implemented and aligned with individual care plans. The Activities Director will collaborate with nursing, direct care, and administrative teams to integrate activities into overall care, manage activity-related budgets and supplies, and maintain documentation and reports as required by agency policies and regulatory standards. Ongoing tasks include evaluating program effectiveness, adjusting activities based on participants’ needs, and fostering a warm, inclusive environment that encourages participation and personal growth.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and interact effectively with residents, families, and staff.
• Experience in recreation and therapeutic recreation, with the ability to design engaging, person-centered activity programs for individuals with diverse abilities.
• Event planning skills to organize group activities, celebrations, and special programs that enhance community life.
• Budgeting skills to manage activity program resources, track expenses, and optimize use of materials and equipment.
• Relevant education such as a degree or certification in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Activity Programming, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field (CTRS or similar credentials preferred).
• Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or in long-term care, residential, or health care settings.
• Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities, including staff supervision, scheduling, and program coordination.
• Basic computer skills for documentation, scheduling, reporting, and communication; familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in residential care is beneficial.
