Electrical Engineer 2

• Designs or reviews the design of components or complete electrical systems, including contract documents for a construction project based on work requests initiated by Commonwealth agencies.
• Reviews designs of electrical components of projects prepared by professional engineering consultants by checking compliance with contract specifications, safety codes, and engineering standards.
• Utilizes design parameters which include compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for fire safety, and PA Uniform Construction Codes (UCC).
• Inspects, investigates, and resolves electrical system construction problems for Commonwealth agencies by checking compliance with contract specifications, safety codes, national electrical codes, and engineering soundness.
• Designs electrical systems for water sewage treatment plants, buildings, and appurtenances used by state agencies.
• Designs or reviews the design of lighting, signaling, and electrical servicing of complex highway interchanges or highway rest areas.
• Designs or reviews the design of complete underground mine electrical systems and electrical equipment, reviews detailed electrical schematics submitted by equipment manufacturers and mine operators, researches new technology, and prepares reports outlining findings and recommendations.
• Obtains required approvals and permits for electrical engineering designs from Commonwealth agencies.

Employees in this job are responsible for the design, or review of designs, of complete electrical engineering projects or for the conduct of a segment of an engineering research project.

Work may involve designing or reviewing the design of projects such as a complete electrical distribution system, the lighting and safety signals for a complex highway interchange, underground mine electrical systems and equipment, or the conversion of a facility to a total electric utility base.

Work in electrical engineering research will normally involve conducting research tests and preparing the research project results.

Employees work with considerable independence in developing the technical details of the project but must adhere to project priorities and scheduled deadlines.

Work requires contact with public agencies, consultants or contractors to obtain compliance with Commonwealth standards and objectives.

Employees may be required to take professional responsibility for their own work products and may be directed to assume responsible charge for unlicensed employees within the work unit.

Supervision and technical guidance is received from a project coordinator or supervisory engineer who assigns work in project form and reviews completed work for engineering soundness, attainment of project goals, and cost effectiveness.

Two years of professional electrical engineering experience which required work on any structural electrical system; and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; or Two years of professional electrical engineering experience which required work on any structural electrical system, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.

• Perf. Certification/Credential: You must be in possession of a Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
• You must be in possession of a valid driver's license.
