Medical Director

The Medical Director serves as the organization’s clinical leader, responsible for advancing quality patient care, provider engagement, patient safety, and clinical excellence. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Medical Director partners with providers, executive leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to drive strategic initiatives, improve clinical outcomes, and support a culture of innovation, quality, and patient-centered care. The Medical Director provides leadership for clinical operations, medical staff relations, quality improvement efforts, and regulatory compliance. This role collaborates closely with operational and clinical leaders to enhance care delivery, strengthen provider engagement, and ensure the organization meets its clinical and business objectives. The Medical Director plays a key role in shaping organizational strategy, supporting provider recruitment and retention, and fostering continuous improvement across all areas of patient care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Clinical Leadership Provide strategic and clinical leadership for all medical services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. Oversee and support physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and clinical staff through mentorship, coaching, and performance management. Maintain clinical oversight to ensure adherence to evidence-based practices, regulatory requirements, and standards of care. Serve as a clinical resource and thought leader for providers and interdisciplinary teams. Participate in direct patient care activities as needed to maintain clinical engagement and support organizational goals. Operational & Strategic Leadership Partner with executive leadership to develop and implement organizational strategies that improve patient outcomes, operational performance, and growth. Collaborate with operational and nursing leaders to optimize clinical workflows, staffing models, and care delivery processes. Evaluate clinical and operational data to identify trends, improve performance, and support informed decision-making. Support business development initiatives, program expansion, and service line growth. Align clinical priorities with organizational goals, quality measures, and financial objectives. Quality, Safety & Compliance Lead quality improvement, patient safety, risk management, and performance improvement initiatives. Develop, implement, and monitor clinical protocols, policies, and best practices. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies. Oversee credentialing, peer review, provider performance management, and quality assurance activities. Monitor key clinical, operational, and patient experience metrics and implement improvement strategies as needed. Workforce Development Recruit, onboard, develop, and retain high-performing clinical providers and leaders. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and continuous learning. Provide regular performance coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities. Promote physician engagement, provider well-being, and leadership development across the organization. Build strong interdisciplinary partnerships to enhance team effectiveness and patient outcomes. Stakeholder & Community Engagement Represent the organization in professional, community, and industry settings. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with providers, health systems, community partners, payers, employers, and other stakeholders. Participate in leadership meetings, committees, and strategic planning activities to advance organizational objectives. Serve as a champion for the organization's mission, vision, and values. Furthermore, passing a thorough background check is a requirement for employment with ICH. Education and/or Experience: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution. Current, unrestricted medical license. Board certification in a relevant specialty (i.e., Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or related field). Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare, medical group, or hospital settings. Management experience in a community health or public health setting, preferred. Demonstrated success leading physician engagement, clinical operations, and quality improvement initiatives. Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, quality metrics, and patient safety principles. Experience with medical staff relations, credentialing, and physician leadership. Physical And Equipment Requirements: Normal work environment is an office in a primary care clinical setting, which involves some physical risks requiring basic safety precautions. This position routinely requires sitting, standing, bending/stooping, operating a computer for extended periods, and lifting or carrying objects up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
