Registered Nurse - Med/Surg, Part Time Nights

Position Summary The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care guided by the ANA scope of practice. The role collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to assess, implement, and evaluate care plans. It emphasizes leadership, accountability, and professional growth. Responsibilities Complete patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated. Document detailed information including plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status. Ensure appropriate documentation based on the level of care and include transfer/discharge documentation as indicated. Follow the five rights of medication administration, verbalize medication to patients and families, assess allergies and potential side effects, and document responses. Coordinate and supervise nursing care, delegating tasks and maintaining accountability for delegated care. Promote a culture of safety: assess patients for risks, adhere to policies, initiate interventions, conduct bedside shift reports, ensure appropriate hand‑offs, and document the nursing process responsibly. Assess learning needs of patients and families, plan and provide instruction using appropriate teaching methods, and document responses. Provide patient‑centered care, embrace cultural diversity, respect dignity, and maintain open lines of communication with active listening. Meet accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to the position. Promote a culture of learning and growth by seeking learning experiences and mentoring others. Perform other duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice. Education and Licensure Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program (required) or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred). Current New York State Registered Nurse license (NY Hospitals) or Current Connecticut Registered Nurse license (CT Hospitals); new graduates awaiting licensure may be considered for Connecticut positions at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer. Certifications American Nurses Association endorsed certification or Academy of Medical‑Surgical Nurses certification (preferred). BLS required upon hire for all nursing care areas. ACLS required in specified units (ED, ICU, CCU, SDU, PCU, PACU, Cath Lab, GI, LDRP, IR). Specialty certifications required or preferred: PALS (ED, PACU, Pediatric areas), NRP (MCH, NICU, LDRP, DR), EFM (LDRP), TNCC (ED), ENPC (ED RN), TCAR (ICU or PACU). Additional training in de‑stress techniques (CPI) and behavioral health may be required for certain units. Working Conditions Manual: requires significant manual and motor skills, finger dexterity. Occupational: some occupational risk. Physical effort: medium to heavy, may require lifting up to 35 lbs. Environment: exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and human waste.
