Sheet Metal Operator
We are seeking a Sheet Metal Operator to operate sheet metal fabrication equipment including laser cutters, press brakes, PEM install, and other fabrication machinery. The successful candidate will produce high-quality sheet metal components according to engineering drawings and CNC programs while maintaining equipment, ensuring safety, and meeting production schedules. This role requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work with precision fabrication equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate sheet metal fabrication equipment including laser cutters, waterjet cutters, plasma cutters, press brakes, PEM, and shears.
- Load and unload materials safely and efficiently, and set up machines according to CNC programs and work instructions.
- Monitor machine operation, make adjustments to maintain quality, and perform tool changes and basic machine setup tasks.
- Inspect parts for dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and quality defects using measuring tools.
- Select and stage appropriate sheet metal materials for production jobs and maintain an organized work area.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on sheet metal equipment and report issues for repair.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Coordinate with programmers, managers, and other teams on production priorities and process improvements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ years of sheet metal fabrication experience or equivalent technical training.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions.
- Proficiency with measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures).
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Good mechanical aptitude and hand-eye coordination.
- Basic computer skills for machine operation.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of sheet metal fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Technical certification or vocational training in sheet metal fabrication or machining.
- Experience operating laser cutters, press brakes, or turret punches.
- Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Experience with CNC-controlled fabrication equipment.
- Knowledge of different sheet metal materials (aluminum, steel, stainless steel).
- Forklift certification.
