Senior Defense Trial Attorney 132703 Zurich is looking for a Sr. Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney to join our Staff Legal team and work from home in Maryland. As a Trial Attorney, you will represent commercial insureds of a prestigious and financially stable commercial insurance carrier by preparing and trying high‑complexity, high‑exposure Workers’ Compensation cases in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Responsibilities Represent the Company in all phases of Workers’ Compensation litigation in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Prepare and defend high‑exposure cases from a challenging caseload, including: Providing legal analysis and advice to claims professionals Preparing and filing pleadings and documents Conducting legal research Preparing for and conducting pre‑trial discovery Preparing for and handling final hearings before the Workers’ Compensation judge Conducting post‑trial activities as appropriate Basic Qualifications Juris Doctor and 7+ years of experience in Workers’ Compensation litigation Active membership in good standing with the Maryland and District of Columbia Bar associations Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe products Experience using Lexis or Westlaw Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and defense litigation environment Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a team‑based environment Effective problem‑solving and analytical skills Pay and Benefits Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. The proposed salary range for this position is $155,000.00 – $175,000.00, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%. We also offer competitive benefits for employees and their families.
