Job Details Job Location: Barbur World Foods – PORTLAND, OR 97219 Position Type: Full Time Salary Range: $16.50 - $16.50 Hourly As a Deli Clerk, you’ll play a key role in delivering hospitality and warmth to every customer while working in a dynamic, team-oriented environment. You’ll help maintain a beautiful and well-stocked deli, prepare fresh meals and grab-and-go items, support catering needs, and ensure all food safety and cleanliness standards are met. RESPONSIBILITIES Close or open the deli case in a manner that adheres to store policies and procedures. Proactively rotate deli items to ensure product sold is of the highest quality. Work with co-workers, leads, and supervisor to maintain a visually pleasing deli display. Proactively monitor pricing and labels to ensure clarity and support food safety. Help to ready, fill, or package catering orders as needed. Follow established cleaning and sanitizing practices as outlined by the Deli Manager, including use of proper safety equipment when handling ready-to-eat foods. Prepare meals for the grab-and-go section and the made-to-order department. Correctly prepare all food served following standard recipes. Determine amount and type of food and supplies required to meet customer demand. CAPABILITY REQUIREMENTS Sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Use fine motor skills to grasp, move, and lift items of up to 35 pounds without assistance. Bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, step up and down stairs, and climb. Recognize and respond to a variety of sounds; see at near and far distances. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience: Minimum of 6 months experience in a customer service role, preferably in a grocery or food service environment. Experience handling cash transactions and operating a POS system. Experience with food preparation, including slicing, weighing, and packaging products. Skills and Abilities: Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to interact politely and professionally with customers. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Basic math skills for calculating weights, prices, and change. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area. Ability to follow food safety and sanitation guidelines. Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 30 pounds.
