CLINICAL NUTRITIONIST - WIC - Public Health

Job Summary Improves the health status of Health Department clients and the general community. Provides appropriate health assessment, counseling and education to WIC participants. Key Responsibilities Provide group nutrition education and individual nutrition counseling to WIC participants. Perform nutritional assessments for WIC participants through weighing and measuring, lab work, diet assessment, and health history. Interface with medical personnel regarding appropriate nutritional care of WIC clients, and act as a liaison to other health professionals and community agencies for referral of clients. Assist with patient flow and customer service in the WIC clinic. Assist in determining WIC income eligibility as needed. Act as liaison with appropriate vendors; maintain accurate inventory of infant formulas at WIC clinics. Handle client complaints in clinic; refer to clinic administrator when appropriate. Research and develop current nutrition and health information and develop client materials. Perform community-based nutrition education and outreach. Perform chart audits. Perform all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health Department as assigned or required. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, Nutrition Science, Home Economics, or other related degree approved to serve as a certifying authority by the Texas WIC program with twelve (12) hours of food and nutrition classes. Minimum of two (2) years Clinical Nutrition experience preferred. Registered Dietitian and Licensed Dietitian preferred; bilingual preferred. Skilled with using spreadsheets and/or word processing software. Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
