MSW Intern

Job Description To direct and assist in implementing assigned programs and activities for the general membership of the NJM Chapter area. Assist in program development, implementation, and evaluation as assigned by field supervisor. Promote MS awareness activities through contact with members, community based organizations and outreach activities. Offer psychoeducational support to residents living with MS at an independent living housing development in Freehold NJ. Visit and observe self‑help groups facilitated by Society trained volunteers and provide feedback to supervisor. Visit and observe chapter wellness programs assisting as needed and providing feedback to field supervisor. Develop, promote and offer a psychoeducational support group for people living with MS or caregivers to be led by intern as required by MSW degree program under guidance of field supervisor. Attend and participate in agency training as assigned. Assist in maintaining a safe and positive environment during program activities. Understand and adhere strictly to organizational policies, procedures, and goals. Acquire an understanding of the psychosocial issues faced by living with a chronic illness/disability and develop the ability to use solution‑focused interventions to assist members in problem solving. Attend to matters that may be area specific and as assigned by direct supervisor including accurate database management. Active participation in weekly supervision with LCSW field supervisor. Preparation for site visits from School of Social Work Field Advisor. Complete requirements of the University’s MSW program. Qualifications Successful completion of undergraduate degree in an accredited program. Current enrollment in a graduate studies degree program at an accredited School of Social Work. Understanding of agency policies, procedures, and the ability to successfully implement the same. Understanding of basics concerning health/disease and disability process and the subsequent challenges in the biopsychosocial realms of the individual. Ability to form relationships with and advocate for individuals from diverse backgrounds/populations. Basic awareness of principles of program design, implementation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Successful completion of National MS Society Orientation Trainings as assigned. Additional Information Must have valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle.
