Maricopa County Regional School District Special Education Teacher (SPED)

The Maricopa County Regional School District is seeking teacher-leaders to teach, manage, and lead in a teacher-led school environment. A teacher-led school is designed and implemented by teachers who are granted the collective autonomy to make the decisions influencing the success of the school. MCRSD teacher-leaders have autonomy over: the earning program; school-level policy; schedule; determining work hours; choosing school leaders/roles; professional development; setting classroom-level budgets; and determining school-level assessments.

After obtaining students' Special Education paperwork, students are provided appropriate services based on their current IEP. While technology is used to supplement this classroom, the major emphasis is active teaching for the purpose of accelerating progress according to each student's Individual Education Plan.

Qualifications: Performance Goals:

• Secondary certification in English, Math, Science, or Social Studies To provide intense coaching, goal setting and assistance to students that
• Special Education Certification leads to measurable increases in their IEP goals
• SEI Endorsement To develop transition goals that lead to measurable and documented
• Pass Polygraph (dependent on site requirements) growth and sustainability during and after release from Detention.
• In Secure care, block schedule experience (Desirable)
• Experience Teaching in Traditional and/or Charter High School (Desirable)
• Knowledge and experience with using technology as an instructional tool (Desirable)

Lesson Planning and Design – SPED Responsibilities

• The teacher designs and plans instruction that develops each students' abilities to meet Arizona's Academic Standards as specified on IEPs o Complete required weekly assessments and lesson plans that include interactive lessons for students according to the IEP. o Plan/ prepare instruction that includes lessons that align to the IEP goals o Plan/ prepare for small group instruction based on students' service needs according to the IEP o Plan/ prepare mini-lessons aligned to student's needs and ECAP o Plan/ prepare for one-on-one instruction throughout the learning sessions as needed o Insure that classroom teachers have a copy of student's goals and accommodations o Consult with classroom teachers as needed in order to implement delivery model as stated on IEP

Learning Climate – SPED Responsibilities

• The teacher creates and maintains a learning climate that supports the development of each student's ability to meet Arizona's Academic Standards. o Create an interesting classroom with appropriate artifacts supporting the student ECAP goals, work of students, progress of students as appropriate o Model and provide guidance in goal setting, goal attainment and problem solving with ECAP goals o Maintain a productive and positive relationship with students, staff and Detention personnel o Follow all procedures and rules as expected by Detention personnel o Effectively organize materials, instruction and room each day o Communicate and post clear expectations for student behavior and learning o Model appropriate and professional adult interaction, dress, language and presentation at all times o Practice the use of positive, specific, and immediate feedback to students as appropriate and effective.

Instructional Delivery – SPED Responsibilities

• The teacher implements and manages instruction that develops students' ability to meet Arizona's Academic Standards and accomplish goals as specified on IEPs o Identify the content goal/ objective for the day and provide the'steps' or sub-objectives leading to success for each student o Present, facilitate, model, and provide both guided and independent practice based on student goals, classroom assessments and A+ results. o Facilitate learning through well designed questioning and academic feedback o Monitor and adjust instruction as needed to meet goals o Report progress to the each student formally and informally throughout the instructional session so they can monitor their own growth o Group students for instruction when assessment and student need indicate a need to do so o Provide ongoing feedback transition goals identified on the ECAP and those stated on the IEP.

Student Progress Records – SPED Responsibilities

• The teacher assesses learning and communicates results to students, parents and other professionals with respect to student's ability to meet Arizona's Academic Standards as specified on the IEPs

During residency in Detention, the teacher will: o Develop an ECAP plan that includes short and long term goals for academics, post high school, career and extra-curricular areas in a manner that can be applied after release using transcripts, IEPs and intake information. o Ensure that Special Education records are current and in compliance o Monitor and record student progress and provide feedback to each student based on daily, weekly and monthly goals. o Provide student testing to assure accurate student performance information is used for placement, intake and release. o Schedule GED testing thru collaboration with appropriate staff when student has demonstrated readiness for GED testing.

Prior to and after release from Detention, the teacher will: o Provide a summary report for each student, parents/ guardian and transition agency upon release o Participate in monitoring student progress in high school, post high school or other ECAP goals for 30 days after release, or every 30 days for 90 days if a student returns to detention. o Maintain a school portfolio of student essays. Essays will be written about student goals, student changes in attitude or other progress

Salary Range: $40,000 – $51,000 annually
