Job Summary The Compliance Officer is responsible for investigating firefighter line‑of‑duty deaths and serious injury events, conducting inspections of employer facilities and equipment, developing safety policies, managing grants, and participating in disaster response. The role requires a security background check and is located in Tampa, covering the Southwest/Southeast Regions. Responsibilities Investigate firefighter line‑of‑duty deaths and serious injury events, prepare reports, and recommend protective measures to prevent occupational diseases. Conduct inspections of employer facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with workplace safety, uniform rules and adopted standards. Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and standards that reduce accidents and occupational diseases. Study firefighter occupational diseases and recommend preventive rules and training programs statewide. Assist with safety grants, including pre‑award inspections and post‑award monitoring; complete grant applications. Participate in emergency operations as a member of the disaster response team and perform related assignments when required. Inspect certified training facilities and equipment, investigate complaints regarding state testing and field examiners. Perform any other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Two or more years of experience conducting and documenting safety investigations in the fire service. Minimum of two years experience with fire safety issues, compliance inspections and related matters. Knowledge of basic management principles, occupational safety programs, communication techniques, data collection methods, and fire safety statutes. Ability to evaluate and manage a safety program, supervise people, plan and coordinate work, determine priorities, communicate effectively, conduct research and investigations, prepare reports, and work independently. Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills. Understanding of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to safety standards. Capacity to formulate policies and procedures. Additional Information This position requires a security background check, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment.
