Job Title: Production Welder

Job Description

Join a high-volume manufacturing environment where you will use blueprints, fixtures, and a variety of welding processes to produce steel and galvanized metal products to precise specifications. You will set up and operate welding equipment safely and efficiently, deliver consistent, high-quality welds, and contribute to a collaborative production team focused on craftsmanship and performance.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate MIG, TIG, flux core, and stick welding equipment safely, productively, and in an ergonomically correct manner to manufacture quality parts and assemblies.
• Hand weld products made of steel and galvanized metal using blueprints, fixtures, and appropriate welding processes while meeting all quality and productivity standards.
• Adjust welding machines as needed to maintain part quality, minimize smoke and spatter, and ensure stable, consistent welds.
• Produce high-quality welds with good workmanship and minimal rejects, consistently meeting acceptable productivity levels with limited supervision.
• Read and understand blueprints, weld symbols, part numbers, tolerances, and data critical to quality and weld placement, and apply this information accurately to each job.
• Manufacture products to specification with and without fixtures, using weld tables, tape measures, protractors, clamps, and other fabrication tools.
• Identify required components for each product and assemble and fit parts correctly prior to welding.
• Use tape measures in fractions and decimals and apply basic math to determine required dimensions and verify part accuracy.
• Professionally communicate production issues, quality concerns, and clarification needs to front-line employees and leadership to support smooth operations.
• Follow all safety requirements, including proper use of safety glasses, gloves, and other protective equipment as described in job hazard analyses.
• Perform grinding, fitting, and basic fabrication tasks as needed to prepare and finish welded assemblies.
• Complete work to print requirements independently, ensuring that all products meet specified standards before leaving the work area.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support production and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Essential Skills

• Previous manufacturing experience preferred, with exposure to production or fabrication environments.
• Hands-on MIG welding experience, including setup, operation, and adjustment of MIG welding equipment.
• Proficient welding skills with galvanized steel, carbon steel, and stainless steel, including understanding of material behavior and weld quality requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including weld symbols, part numbers, tolerances, and critical quality data.
• Ability to use a tape measure accurately in both fractions and decimals to verify dimensions and layouts.
• Capability to apply basic math to determine dimensions, fit-up requirements, and part verification.
• Ability to work independently and complete work to print requirements with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing consistent, high-quality welds with very few rejects.
• Effective communication skills to professionally discuss production issues and seek clarification when needed.
• Commitment to following safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and gloves.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with MIG welding, TIG welding, flux core welding, and stick welding in a production setting.
• Experience in fabrication, fitting, and assembly of structural steel, sheet metal, and mild steel components.
• Skill in blueprint reading and interpretation for production, fabrication, and weld placement.
• Experience working with stainless steel, structural steel, and sheet metal in manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency with grinding and finishing tools to prepare and refine welded parts.
• Familiarity with weld tables, fixtures, clamps, and other fabrication equipment to build products to specification.
• Ability to operate welder MIG equipment and adjust parameters to achieve desired weld characteristics.
• Experience in production welding environments with a focus on efficiency, quality, and meeting output targets.

Work Environment

Work in a busy, non-climate-controlled production facility that can be loud and requires awareness of safety practices at all times. You will operate welding equipment and fabrication tools, including MIG, TIG, flux core, and stick welders, weld tables, clamps, grinders, and measuring tools such as tape measures and protractors. The environment includes welding galvanized steel, which can produce noticeable fumes and sparks, as well as mild steel, carbon steel, and stainless steel, each with distinct welding characteristics. You will follow established safety guidelines, including wearing safety glasses, gloves, and other appropriate protective gear, while working on various shifts that may offer shift differentials for second and third shifts.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Charles, MO.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
