Vice President of Product and Services

Vice President of Product and Services will lead the development and management of current and future product and service solutions. Responsibilities include identifying customer and market opportunities, developing new or refining existing product and service solutions, and managing their ongoing success in meeting customer needs and financial goals. To be successful the VP will be orchestrating the collaborative efforts of internal and external teams and stakeholders to optimize opportunities, design, production, launch, and ongoing success of the solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • As a Senior Leadership team member, work with the team in developing the strategic and operational direction for the business and translating that into functional and individual action.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the current and potential markets, applications, customers and competition within renovation and construction product and services industries.
  • Use that knowledge to develop concepts and business cases that adjust, identify, and build solutions that meet those needs within our positioning and strategies demonstrating high ROI.
  • Lead a team of product engineers and service resources, along with cross-functional and external resources, in the development and management of the full solutions offering.
  • Develop and manage all testing, ongoing certifications and technical specifications.
  • Ensure that new concepts move effectively through the stage gate process from concept to production/implementation, on-time and on-budget.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing to source materials, identify vendors, meet quality and functionality standards, refine design for production, and ensure production opportunities continue to be addressed.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing and Finance to concepts that meet customer needs and financial targets from launch through full life-cycle.
  • Responsible for pricing strategy development considering solution value in the market, competitive landscape and pricing power.
  • Aid in development of educational sales tools and training to drive internal product/service and application expertise.
  • Support customer installation or implementation of solutions to ensure appropriate coaching and training while gaining additional market knowledge.

General Attributes and Requirements

Market and Functional Expertise

  • 10-15 years of experience in construction, building products or related services such as leasing, repair, logistics, etc. leading product development, design, management or services development.
  • 5+ years of senior-level leadership developing and leading teams driving innovation, exceeding customer needs, and growing revenue and profitability.
  • Mechanical Engineering degree and background. Additional business degree or course work preferred.
  • Innovation Ability to think outside the box, drawing on experience or existing references to generate concepts towards solving a customer or market pain point and application needs.
  • Mechanical aptitude a strong foundation in all things mechanical (tools, manufacturing machinery, products, technologies) with experience in creating, manufacturing, and supporting mechanically engineered products and services.
  • Design Skills Ability to clearly communicate concepts and requirements that contribute to an efficient ideation process. Strong background in CAD and technology solutions required. Direct experience with Solidworks preferred.
  • Manufacturing process experience or exposure A wide and diverse knowledge of manufacturing systems and technologies as it relates to metals, plastics, composites, electronics, automation, assembly, quality, safety and testing.
  • Broad awareness of material science, processing technologies and their applications.

  • Strategic vision Skills and ability to identify opportunities, goals, and plans anticipating needs and resource requirements to facilitate the growth.
  • Leadership skills- Able to translate company and functional needs into simple, clear goals and initiatives for the function while inspiring, coaching, and supporting the team individually and cross-functionally.
  • Managerial skills Ability to direct a team, manage budgets, timelines, and conflicting priorities. Tracking performance of individuals and setting goals to drive productivity and efficiency in support of company objectives is also a key attribute.
  • Project Management skills- Experience leading cross-functional teams in Stage Gate process to ensure clear milestones, decision points, resources management and timing.
  • Collaboration- Continually looking to learn and improve while working in teams. Able to bring strong conviction and curiosity while hearing alternative perspectives. Always putting the success of the customer and company above personal and functional agendas.
  • Data Driven- Brings data and analytics into decision making process.
