Description:

A custom body truck mechanic combines the skills of a truck body builder with those of a vehicle mechanic, working in a production or service environment to install or repair customized truck bodies. This position involves inspecting, repairing, and restoring metal truck bodies according to manufacturer specifications, while also performing general vehicle maintenance and repairs on these custom bodies. The mechanic may work on both the structural components (frames, interiors) and the mechanical systems (engine, brakes, electrical) of the vehicle.

Key Responsibilities

· Review work orders and discuss work with supervisors.

· Inspect and diagnose truck bodies for damage, structural issues, or alignment problems.

· Install custom body frames, and structural components using hand and power tools, welding equipment, and other production tools.

· Use diagnostic tools to test vehicle systems and identify faults.

· Install and repair electrical wiring, lighting, and accessories.

· Maintain and organize tools, materials, and inventory.

· Maintain cleanliness of work area, and follow safety and quality standards in the workshop.

· Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

· Technical skills: Proficiency in welding, sheet metal fabrication, alignment, and vehicle diagnostics.

· Mechanical aptitude: Ability to troubleshoot and repair both body and mechanical systems.

· Knowledge of shop equipment and safety protocols.

· Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

· Education/training: Automotive technology, mechanical engineering, or related field; ASE certification preferred.

Work Environment

• On-site in a manufacturing or service facility, often working with heavy equipment and in a non-climate-controlled shop setting.
• Requires both precision work and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
