Pediatric Rheumatologist – Academic Faculty Position The Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital | Albany Medical College | Albany Med Health System About the Role We are recruiting a board‑certified (or board‑eligible) Pediatric Rheumatologist to join our established academic division. Qualified candidates must have successfully completed an ACGME accredited Pediatric Rheumatology (or Med‑Peds Rheumatology) fellowship program and will be eligible for appointment at the Albany Medical College at a rank commensurate with experience and qualification. The role can also be assembled for a Med‑Peds Rheumatologist with special career focus on running a transition program. Division of Pediatric Rheumatology 4 pediatric rheumatology physicians and 1 advanced practice provider Full‑time and per‑dium nursing, medical assistants, administrative staff, and a research coordinator Established outpatient clinics, including 5 satellite clinics Shared inpatient consulting service and after‑hours/weekend coverage Procedure clinic and sedation service for joint injections Point‑of‑care musculoskeletal ultrasound for faculty with training or interest Infusion program run by advanced practice provider and nurses with physician supervision Strong collaboration with pediatric subspecialists across the Children's Hospital Faculty appointment through Albany Medical College at rank commensurate with experience and qualification Unique Clinical and Academic Environment Dedicated, in‑house Pediatric Rheumatology Clinical Pharmacy Program Quality Improvement Team (QIT) involving physicians, APPs, nurses, community leaders, and parent investigators Participation in CARRA registry and substudies Musculoskeletal ultrasound training available through USSONAR Development of a Pediatric Interdisciplinary Pain Program in collaboration with behavioral health and PT/OT services Adult Rheumatology Fellowship collaboration with supervision of rotating fellows and didactics Didactics: weekly case conferences, joint didactics, journal clubs, radiology and renal pathology rounds, QIT meetings, Chelsea club, CME lectures, and regional conferences Teaching opportunities: SMJB course, exam workshops, resident board review, and Fellowship bedside teaching Leadership and mentoring roles across the Medical College, residency program, and health system Advocacy with the Upstate NY Arthritis Foundation Early‑career faculty encouraged to participate in the Junior Faculty Development Program (0.1 FTE protected time) Potential to contribute to an ACGME‑approved pediatric rheumatology fellowship program within 3 years Responsibilities Provide outpatient pediatric rheumatology consultation and follow‑up Perform inpatient rheumatology consultations when on call Participate in shared after‑hours (phone only) and weekend coverage (≈1 in 4 on average) Teach and supervise medical students, residents, and other learners Mentor trainees in clinical research and scholarly activities Contribute to division QI and CARRA registry activities Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the Children's Hospital Qualifications MD, DO, or equivalent degree Completion of an accredited Pediatric Rheumatology (or Med‑Peds Rheumatology) fellowship program Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Pediatric Rheumatology Eligibility for New York State medical licenseCommitment to clinical excellence, education, and academic medicine Special interest in quality improvement, medical education, musculoskeletal ultrasound, or advocacy initiatives preferred Benefits Competitive base salary ($180,000–$188,000 for Assistant Professor, higher for higher rank) and incentive program Robust sign‑on bonus Relocation allowance Comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision) Generous paid time off and holiday schedule Albany Med retirement plan plus 403(b) Annual CME allowance and dedicated CME time Occurrence‑based malpractice coverage Professional Fulfilment Program, employee wellness programs, and mental health support The Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital is the only Children’s Hospital for 80 counties in upstate NY and serves children and families in southwest VT and Western MA.
