Head of Engineering

Our client, an AI-driven infrastructure company, are hiring a hands-on Head of Engineering to join their team in New York. The successful candidate will take ownership of the company’s technical vision and architecture, helping the organization to build reliable, production-grade AI infrastructure designed to scale across increasingly complex enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

• Own the long-term technical strategy, architecture and engineering roadmap for the company’s AI-native platform.

• Build, develop and lead a high-performing engineering team as the business scales.

• Establish engineering standards and development practices that promote quality, accountability and ownership.

• Lead the development of document processing, contract analysis, invoice verification and autonomous AI agent capabilities.

• Design scalable infrastructure for processing large volumes of structured and unstructured enterprise data.

• Ensure the platform remains secure, resilient, scalable and capable of meeting complex enterprise requirements.

• Partner with the CEO and commercial leadership to align technical priorities with customer needs and business objectives.

• Remain hands-on with architecture and complex technical decisions, providing guidance and challenge where required.

• Communicate the company’s technical vision to customers, prospects, partners and investors.

• Balance rapid product development with the robust technical foundations required for long-term growth.

Skillset

• Extensive hands-on software engineering experience, with a strong track record of building and deploying production systems at scale.

• Experience working within an early-stage, high-growth or rapidly scaling technology company.

• Proven experience hiring, developing, and leading high-performing engineering teams.

• Strong expertise in designing, building, and operating production-grade AI and LLM applications.

• Hands-on knowledge of RAG, LLM orchestration, AI agents and evaluation frameworks.

• Experience developing data-intensive platforms that process large volumes of structured and unstructured data.

• Strong knowledge of backend architecture, data pipelines, distributed systems, and search technologies.

• Experience building enterprise software with a focus on security, compliance, integrations and multi-tenant architecture.

• The technical depth to review code, assess architectural decisions and work closely with senior engineers on complex challenges.

• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to translate business requirements and customer needs into an effective technical strategy.
