Prison Education Program (PEP) Correspondence-based Instructor

Position Summary The Adams State University Prison Education Program (PEP) seeks qualified and experienced instructors to design and teach undergraduate courses for its national correspondence program serving incarcerated persons throughout the United States. Courses are delivered via printed study guides and supplemented by assigned readings. Exams are administered by pre‑approved proctors and all student work is submitted through standard mail. Instructors maintain digital gradebooks and collaborate regularly with PEP staff to issue grades and support administrative processes. Whenever possible instructors are encouraged to use Open Educational Resources (OER) in course development. Responsibilities Design and teach undergraduate courses for the national correspondence program. Prepare course materials including syllabus, study guide, assignment prompts, exams, and assessment tools. Maintain digital gradebooks. Collaborate with PEP staff to issue grades and support administrative processes. Encourage use of OER in course development. Compensation and Benefits Instructors receive $600 for the development of course materials and $75 per credit hour ($225 for a three-credit‑hour course) for each student upon completion of the course. Benefits include retirement and sick leave. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in the subject of instruction, or a master’s degree in any field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in the subject of instruction.
