Deputy Chief Medical Officer

Eastern State Hospital (ESH), near Spokane, WA, is committed to providing quality inpatient treatment for people with serious or long-term behavioral health diagnosis that have been referred to the hospital through a behavioral health organization. ESH, within DSHS's Behavioral Health & Habilitation Administration (BHHA), serves adult patients in Treatment Malls focused on geropsychiatric, civil, or forensic care. Reporting to ESH's Center Medical Director, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer serves as an essential member of the hospital's leadership team. As Deputy CMO, you will ensure standards of patient care and medical practice are consistent with regulatory bodies' professional expectations. You will assist the CMO in providing overall direction and oversight of staff psychiatrists and physicians. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. The Deputy CMO plans, organizes, and evaluates all clinical administrative components to ensure a supportive environment toward the delivery of the highest quality of services. You will supervise a senior medical leadership team and provide clinical and administrative direction to all medical staff and clinical medical services. The work you perform demonstrates strategic management that fosters high quality patient-centered care and influence over medical care policy delivery.

Some of what you will do:

• Lead the daily coordination and operational effectiveness of the facility's psychiatric and medical services
• Provide consultation on clinical matters related to nursing, rehabilitation, and other professional services; build relationships and connect work partners to ensure effective communications and operational peak performance.
• Participate in the formulation of treatment and administrative procedures for clinical services
• Conduct quality reviews and root cause analyses; provide solutions
• Support new and effective strategies for the clinical staff to ensure medical interventions are efficient and medically necessary
• Oversee the hospital's Electronic Health Record conversion
• Guide the hospital in the migration and the development of new processes and workflows for the medical staff

Who should apply:

• A valid license to practice medicine in the State of Washington
• And, completion of an ACGME approved residency in Psychiatry, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine
• And, 5 years of post-eligibility practice in hospital care
• And, broad understanding of all the patients served and the medical treatment protocols or guidelines for various acute and chronic psychiatric and medical conditions

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Regulations of the State of Washington and the Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) standards
• Prior experience as a supervising psychiatrist or training and education of psychiatric residents
• Evidence-based psychosocial therapies, trauma informed care and emerging concepts in recovery from mental illness
• Sound judgment, decision making, conflict resolution, problem-solving, time management, collaborative, and strategic planning leadership skills
