SALAM Islamic Center is seeking a Weekend School Academic Coordinatorto support the educational side of our Weekend School.

This part-time role is ideal for someone who is passionate about Islamic education, organized, dependable, and able to support teachers and help strengthen the student learning experience.The Academic Coordinator will focus on educational follow-up, teacher support, curriculum coordination, and key school-year programs such as student recognition and graduation.

Position Title: Weekend School Academic Coordinator

Reports To: The Executive Director

Start Date: August 2, 2026. This position begins with the 20262027 academic year.

Schedule:

This role is primarily tied to the Weekend School schedule:

• Sundays during school hours
• Some preparation before and after Sunday school
• Limited coordination during the week as needed

Compensation: Monthly stipend based on experience and scope of responsibilities.

Position Summary

The Weekend School Academic Coordinator helps support the quality and consistency of the educational side of the Weekend School. This person will work closely with teachers, help monitor curriculum implementation, assist with student placement and follow-up, and support the planning of important school programs throughout the year.

The ideal candidate is warm, organized, proactive, and able to communicate clearly with both teachers and families while helping maintain a positive and structured school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Teacher Support and Follow-Up

• Serve as a support person for teachers during Sunday school hours
• Check in regularly with teachers regarding classroom needs, challenges, and progress
• Help ensure teachers are informed, prepared, and supported
• Follow up on instructional concerns and bring larger issues to leadership as needed

Curriculum Coordination

• Help monitor curriculum implementation across grade levels
• Follow up with teachers to ensure lessons are moving forward appropriately
• Help identify gaps, inconsistencies, or areas needing improvement
• Support educational planning and continuity from one grade level to the next

Student Support and Placement

• Assist with student assessments and placement guidance
• Help follow up on students who may need additional support or closer attention
• Work with teachers on educational concerns related to student progress

Parent Communication on Educational Matters

• Help address parent questions related to classroom placement, educational progress, and teacher communication
• Support healthy communication between families and teachers when needed
• Escalate sensitive or larger concerns to administration when appropriate

School Programs and Educational Events

Support coordination of key Weekend School programs such as:

• back-to-school preparation
• teacher orientation
• parent meetings
• student recognition
• end-of-year celebration or graduation

Quality and Structure

• Help strengthen the overall educational flow of the Weekend School
• Support consistency, organization, and accountability on the academic side
• Recommend improvements to help the school grow in quality over time

Qualifications

• Experience in education, teaching, school coordination, or curriculum support
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work well with teachers, students, and families
• Ability to follow through and manage responsibilities with consistency
• Familiarity with Islamic school or weekend school environments preferred
• Commitment to a nurturing, structured, and faith-centered educational environment
