Role Overview: INDOT is seeking an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) system field technician to aid in maximizing improvement of safety, security, and efficiency for the travelling public. It is the technician’s responsibility to ensure minimal device down-time through regular preventative maintenance and effective troubleshooting procedures. The technician provides technical support to the department through stateof-the-art information and communications technologies. Location: This position is with INDOT's Central Office location. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: Installnetwork software/hardware. Trainusers on network software/hardware. Provide problem solving or determination and support to ensure proper escalation during periods of outages. Provideinternal analysis during periods of degraded system performance. Performstudies to define solutions. Provideintegrated customer support to all users on hardware/software problems. Attendall meetings involving server hardware. Provideinterface with vendor support services groups. Assist in the evaluation of vendor products to determine which best meets needs. Presentinformation to management regarding purchase of hardware, software and modem equipment. What You'll Need for Success: Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following: Extensive knowledge of network PC/LAN communications hardware/software. Extensive knowledge of local area network concepts. Extensive knowledge of computer programming including computer languages and testing of programs. Extensive knowledge of equipment used. Extensive knowledge of most recent technical developments in the hardware field. Ability to read and understand complicated technical manuals on hardware, software, database design and database administration. Considerable knowledge of network operating systems in use by Indiana State Government. Considerable knowledge of networking protocols. You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one with the first 90 days of employment. A degree is not required. However, at least 3+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
