1S Med/Surg Patient Care Tech

Overview Baptist Health is the largest healthcare system serving central Alabama, providing comprehensive hospital-based and outpatient services to nearly 60 percent of the residents in Montgomery, Autauga and Elmore counties. Job Summary The Patient Care Technician (PCT) will support the patient care team by assisting RNs, LPNs, and Physicians with routine and non-complex patient care activities. The role may include additional duties within the scope of the position. Education and Experience High School graduate or equivalent required. Preference for graduates of a certified Nursing Assistant Program or Health Occupations Program (HOSA). Preferred: completion of first clinical rotation as a Nurse Student (e.g., completion of “Nursing Fundamentals” course) or at least one year of experience in an acute care, nursing home, or home care setting. License and Certification BLS required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of body mechanics and basic safety, principles of physical care and comfort. Medical terminology training preferred. Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Work Conditions and Physical Requirements Position requires sitting for approximately 20% of the workday and mobility for 80% of the workday. Requires occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching, frequent reaching, use of hands, and repetitive actions. Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing or pulling up to 150 pounds. Requires clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation (phone or in person). Continuous visual acuity at close and distant ranges. Protected from weather but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels. Exposure: occasional risk of electrical shock, infection (while performing tasks), hazardous chemicals, and radiation.
