UPDATED - Peer Support Specialist - Grove Campus

Position Overview SAFE Alliance seeks a Peer Support Specialist for the Child Abuse Prevention & Intervention Services program in the Peer Support & Alumni Services department. This role will provide person‑centered, peer‑based support grounded in lived experience, fostering connection, trust, and self‑determination. The Specialist will also support community‑building efforts, including facilitating or contributing to peer spaces that reduce isolation and strengthen connection among participants. Position Details Full‑time, non‑exempt. Annual salary: $50,000–$52,000, dependent upon experience. Location: Grove Blvd. Campus, East Austin. The position may involve some travel in the community or between campuses and will allow for remote/hybrid work. Hours include occasional nights and weekends as needed. Benefits Health, short‑term disability, and life insurance paid by employer; option to purchase additional dependent coverage. Paid time off accruals of up to 15 days per year, prorated based on hire date and hours worked. Eight standard paid holidays throughout the year. Up to four Personal Holidays, based on date of hire. Comprehensive voluntary benefits plan including dental, vision, flexible spending, and various insurance programs such as pet insurance. 403(b) retirement plan with an ability to contribute immediately; employer match of 100% up to 1% of pay and additional discretionary contribution of 2% of pay after one year of eligible service. Benefit plans effective the first day of the month following thirty days of continuous employment; benefit start dates prorated based on hire date and hours worked. Qualifications Preference given to someone with at least one year of professional, intern or volunteer experience in social services such as social work, case management, advocacy, or community outreach. High School degree or GED equivalent is required. Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, homeless populations, individuals with disabilities, or other vulnerable groups highly preferred. Position designed for a survivor of child abuse, domestic or sexual violence, and/or human trafficking who feels comfortable relating to and supporting other survivors. Ability to provide person‑centered, peer‑based support grounded in lived experience, fostering connection, trust, and self‑determination. Previous peer support experience highly preferred. Consistent team player who can relate to and operate effectively with a variety of clients and manage multiple tasks. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage with diverse clients and stakeholders using empathy and active listening. Ability to self‑motivate and exhibit a strong work ethic with strong organizational and documentation skills to maintain accurate records and case files. Knowledge of trauma‑informed care, social justice issues, and community resources; ability to respond to situations with a trauma‑informed, responsive, and strength‑based lens. Knowledge of navigating systems to support personal needs, including problem‑solving and decision‑making skills to connect clients with appropriate resources. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media skills; ability to learn information system management software. Substantial repetitive wrist, hand or finger movements; manual dexterity sufficient to handle items. Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, including up to eight hours a day. Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme temperatures or moderate noise. May require local travel for family support services and field trips. Driver’s license: must hold a valid Texas driver’s license (or obtain one within 90 days of employment if holding an out‑of‑state license) with at least three consecutive years of driving experience (or one year if over 27 years of age) and an acceptable driving record. Completion of the 40‑Hour Office of Attorney General Sexual Assault Advocacy Training Program in person within six months of starting employment; participation in annual continuing education thereafter. Pass all required criminal history background checks, pre‑employment drug screen and TB test, if applicable.
