Receive training in methods used to motivate and encourage individuals, promoting habilitation and treatment and participating in the implementation of established programs. Acquire skills necessary to stand guard in a tower armed with firearms, patrol yards, grounds, cell houses or corridors, dormitories and work areas, and assist in searching for fugitives, capturing them, and returning them to the institution. Receive instruction in working with counselors and other professional and direct support staff to provide additional assistance and support services to individuals in custody, through individualized interaction and group program facilitation. Assist in ensuring individuals in custody have access to necessary and appropriate resources. Escort individuals or groups to and from destinations inside and/or outside the facility grounds, including but not limited to correctional centers, courts, and hospitals. Assist in conducting searches of visitors, individuals in custody, cells, cell houses and/or work locations for contraband. Perform other duties as required or assigned, reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Proof of possession of a bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Secretary of Education. Conditions of Employment Completion of a pre‑service security training course during the trainee period. Successful completion of a firearms training course and proper use of firearms during the trainee period. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel statewide. Pass IDOC/IDJJ background check. Pass a drug screen; use of unauthorized drugs by an employee is prohibited. Abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards set out by the employer. Possession and maintenance of a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card. Utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting digital enhancements for greater efficiency and productivity.
