To substitute teach in the State of Iowa you must hold a current Iowa Teaching License, Iowa Substitute Teaching License, or Iowa Substitute Authorization License. For more information on obtaining licensure in Iowa, visit the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners website: 2026-27 Pay Rates: Base Rate - $175/full day, $87.50/half day Long Term Rate (20 or more consecutive days in the same classroom) - $220/full day, $110/half day Retired Teacher rate - $200/full day, $100/half day Must be willing to support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
