Bookkeeper Position

Our client is a revolutionary lender connecting builders with the capital needed to start and complete residential home building projects. Founded in 2014, our client has positioned itself in a unique space between traditional construction lending and private funding. They utilize a proprietary technology to bridge the gap between the lender and the builder, and ensure payments to subcontractors and suppliers are timely, secure, and accurate. Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join their dynamic lending company. The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing daily transactions, and supporting the company's accounting operations in a fast-paced lending environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring precise tracking of loan-related finances, escrow accounts, payments, and general company operations while complying with regulatory standards in the mortgage industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Record and classify daily financial transactions, including loan origination fees, servicing income, interest, principal payments, and operating expenses, using accounting software.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor invoices, contractor payments, marketing expenses, and borrower-related fees.
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, general ledger accounts, and escrow/trust accounts on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Monitor daily cash activity and balances across multiple accounts; track and reconcile fund disbursements.
  • Prepare and post journal entries for loan disbursements, funding, payoffs, and adjustments.
  • Generate regular financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow summaries, and loan portfolio summaries for management review.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed asset depreciation.
  • Maintain organized documentation for audits, regulatory examinations, and tax preparation.
  • Collaborate with loan officers, processors, underwriters, and funding teams to resolve accounting-related questions and ensure timely and accurate financial data.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP principles, and relevant mortgage industry regulations.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records promptly.
  • Track interest accruals and fees and ensure interest and fee invoices are accurately prepared, issued, and collected.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in mortgage lending, real estate, financial services, or a related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience with mortgage loan accounting is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or mortgage-specific platforms; advanced Excel skills required.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with mortgage industry regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience reconciling escrow accounts and preparing escrow analyses.
  • Knowledge of loan servicing, investor reporting, or secondary market operations.
  • Certification such as Certified Bookkeeper (CB) from AIPB or similar is a plus.
