Job Description and Duties

The Information Technology Specialist III (ITS III) will be responsible for the overall network and network security architecture of the Department, with a mastery focus on the design and implementation of the California Highway Patrol's (CHP) statewide reporting system, CalCrash. The ITS III will maintain a deep expertise in network architecture, security best practices, cloud network and cloud security expertise, and a strong understanding of the complexities involved in integrating diverse systems. The CHP network infrastructure supports an environment of 20,000 endpoint devices, over 250 physical locations, and 25 911 dispatch centers that operate 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year.

This limited-term position may be extended up to a maximum of 24 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Working Conditions

Monday through Friday, 0800-1700 hours. The Information Technology Specialist III may need to work outside of normally scheduled hours during emergencies.

1. Describe a complex project where you designed and implemented network access controls for both internal and external users. Focus on connecting business requirements to security considerations.
2. How would you approach and design the network architecture and access control to support a zero-trust security model? Include any technology or strategies you have used.
3. Explain how you would approach a scenario where a business area needs highly restricted access while providing external agencies controlled access to portions of this data. Articulate your network segregation and access control policies.
