This position is a full-time opportunity located in Columbus, Ohio.Battelle's Biomedical Research Center is home to over 200 scientific staff with expertise spanning aerobiology, safety toxicology, pathology, microbiology, and chemistry. Our team works collaboratively to develop and test novel drugs and medical countermeasures from discovery through FDA approval. The facility includes high-containment environments — a highly toxic material test facility and Biosafety Level 1, 2, and 3 laboratories.In this role, the selected individual will support toxicology and chemistry laboratory activities evaluating medical countermeasures for highly toxic materials and infectious organisms using animal research models. Consistently maintaining high levels of safety and accuracy is paramount at all times.ResponsibilitiesAs an Animal Laboratory Technician, the selected individual will support critical laboratory operations within a high-containment biomedical research environment. Responsibilities may include:Performing routine laboratory procedures with a high degree of accuracy, including the collection, recording, analysis, documentation, and reporting of resultsWorking with hazardous materials in a controlled environment while maintaining strict safety standards and proceduresLearning and refining new laboratory skills and techniques to support evolving research needsMaintaining thorough written and verbal communication with supervisors, study directors, and coworkersUnderstanding and following all relevant SOPs, facility guidelines, and security protocolsSupporting the sanitization, repair, and maintenance of caging, carts, and other laboratory equipmentRegularly cleaning and maintaining laboratory facilities and equipmentAssisting in the disposal and removal of waste from the facilityMaintaining excellent attendance and punctuality across all assigned projectsKey QualificationsAssociate's degree or higher in biology, animal science, or a related life science field; OR a high school diploma with a minimum of 2 years of equivalent laboratory experienceDemonstrated technical knowledge sufficient to perform routine assignments, operate basic equipment, follow standard procedures, and perform routine data analysisHigh degree of manual dexterity and the ability to work while wearing a respiratorAbility to frequently bend and stoop; must be able to lift 50 lbs. to waist level and 25 lbs. to shoulder level; must be able to remain on feet for the majority of the work shiftMust be willing to work in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) and/or Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) biocontainment environment and wear appropriate respiratory protectionMust be willing to be immunized with FDA-licensed vaccines and Investigational New Drugs (INDs) recommended for individuals at occupational risk of exposure to biological agentsAbility to obtain and maintain enrollment in applicable personnel reliability programs (NACLC); enrollment requires the ability to pass commercial and/or federal background investigationsAbility to obtain and maintain DoJ Security Risk Assessment (SRA) approval and CDC approval to work with BSAT materialMust be willing to participate in random drug screeningMust be willing to work weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed; this position follows a schedule of five 8-hour workdays with two consecutive weekday off daysMust be a U.S. CitizenCompensation DataBattelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $32,300 – $43,600 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
