The role

Axion Corporation is looking for a Buyer / Procurement Specialist to own the purchasing and supplier coordination that keeps our jobs supplied and on schedule.

You’ll purchase the raw material, hardware, tooling, and outside services required for production; manage purchase orders and supplier commitments; track lead times and deliveries; and resolve issues before they affect the shop or our customers.

Because we’re a small precision manufacturing company, this isn’t purchasing from behind a desk. You’ll work directly with management, production, quality, receiving, and our suppliers to understand what each job needs, when it’s needed, and what needs attention.

What you’ll do

• Purchase raw material, hardware, tooling, and outside processing required for production
• Request and evaluate supplier quotes for price, lead time, availability, and requirements
• Create, issue, and manage purchase orders in Odoo
• Confirm supplier acknowledgments and delivery dates and follow orders through receipt
• Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and identify new sources when needed
• Track open purchase orders, material status, and critical lead times
• Expedite late or high-priority orders and resolve supplier issues before they affect production
• Coordinate outside processes such as heat treating, plating, coating, and other subcontracted services
• Work directly with production and quality when scrap, engineering revisions, or changing requirements create new purchasing needs
• Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier documentation
• Support supplier performance, approved-supplier, and purchasing requirements within Axion’s ISO 9001 quality system
• Communicate risks early and follow open issues through resolution

What you bring

• Experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or a related role; manufacturing experience strongly preferred
• Experience working with an ERP/MRP system; Odoo experience is a plus
• Comfortable working with drawings, bills of material, specifications, and other manufacturing documentation
• Able to communicate clearly and professionally with suppliers, management, and shop personnel
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple open orders and changing priorities
• Comfortable following up with vendors, solving problems, and escalating issues before they become schedule problems
• Strong Excel and general computer skills
• Precision machining, fabrication, aerospace, defense, or government-contract manufacturing experience is a plus
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 supplier requirements is a plus
• FAR/DFARS and ITAR/EAR familiarity is a plus, but not required
• High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred
• Must meet U.S. Person requirements for ITAR-controlled work
