Specialty Care Hospice | Katy, TX About the Role Specialty Care Hospice is seeking a compassionate Registered Dietitian to provide PRN nutritional assessments, dietary counseling, and individualized nutrition recommendations for hospice patients and their families. Working collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team, you will support comfort, dignity, and quality of life through nutrition care that reflects each patient’s preferences, condition, and goals of care. This role includes helping patients and caregivers understand changes in appetite and intake as illness progresses and providing practical, compassionate guidance. What You’ll Do Assess nutritional needs, food and fluid intake, food preferences, and concerns affecting comfort and quality of life. Develop individualized nutrition recommendations in collaboration with the RN Case Manager and interdisciplinary team for incorporation into the patient’s plan of care. Recommend appropriate dietary modifications and nutritional supplements when consistent with the patient’s goals and preferences. Educate patients, families, and caregivers about changes in appetite and intake at the end of life and practical approaches to comfort-focused nutrition. Collaborate with nursing staff and other providers regarding nutrition-related symptoms, feeding concerns, and swallowing difficulties. Participate in Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) discussions and care coordination as needed. Complete assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care coordination documentation in the electronic medical record on the day of service. Promptly communicate significant findings and recommendations to the RN Case Manager. Maintain patient confidentiality and follow agency policies, infection prevention practices, and professional standards. What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field. Current Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential (RD/RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Active Texas Licensed Dietitian (LD) credential. At least 6 months of experience as a registered dietitian. Hospice, palliative care, home health, or experience caring for patients with advanced illness preferred. Understanding of comfort-focused nutrition and the ability to respect patient choices, cultural preferences, and goals of care. Strong assessment, communication, patient education, and documentation skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the interdisciplinary team. Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current automobile liability insurance. Comfort providing services in patients’ homes, assisted living communities, and nursing facilities within the agency’s service area. A compassionate, dependable, and patient-centered approach. Schedule This is a PRN, per-visit position with assignments based on patient needs, service location, and clinician availability. Visit volume and hours are not guaranteed. Scheduling requires coordination with patients, caregivers, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure timely services.
