Accounts Payable & Capital Credits Accountant Position Specification JOB TITLE: Accounts Payable & Capital Credits Accountant FLSA STATUS: This position is non‑exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act in relation to wage and hour regulations. EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate degree in business administration, accounting or office administration preferred. Continuing education in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and databases preferred. EXPERIENCE: Three years of increasing office administration responsibility is required. Experience in accounts payable, accounting, customer service, or banking is preferred. Experience in related areas will be considered. KNOWLEDGE: Thorough working knowledge of administrative and general office practices. Knowledge of rural electrification and cooperative programs helpful. ABILITIES AND SKILLS: Discretion and sound judgment in dealing with people and confidential information; oral and written communication; correspondence and report preparation; basic management practices; typing proficiency; proficiency in MS Office (Excel) and accounting software. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work in a climate‑controlled office, low noise level; requires occasional overtime and may work outside normal environment during major outages. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Sedentary work, frequent sitting, standing, walking, occasional bending, stooping, squatting, lifting; repetitive keyboarding; ability to present information under stress. Position Description Department: Accounting Location: Bamberg, SC Reports To: VP of Finance and Accounting Position Function: Responsible for processing and managing all aspects of the accounts payable function, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and accounting standards. Prepares invoices and related records to pay Cooperative vendors timely. Administers the Cooperative capital credits program. Essential Functions Audit records, prepare reports, and enter data into the computer while maintaining confidentiality. Compile and prepare specialized and routine reports using computer software or database systems. Process accounts payable and maintain accounts payable files and records. Maintain the Capital Credits Program and related files. Represent the Cooperative with a professional demeanor. Maintain a clean and orderly workplace on company property or in company vehicles. Attend and participate in safety meetings and training; observe safety practices. Attend or participate in the Annual Meeting of members as assigned. Communicate using equipment provided by the cooperative in accordance with FCC regulations and company policy. Perform other duties as assigned, including temporary coverage of other personnel’s positions. Performance Standards Maintain and audit records, prepare reports, and enter data, ensuring confidentiality. Compile and prepare specialized and routine reports. Compile and process accounts payable, review, code, and process requests. Process and distribute accounts payable checks; handle vendor inquiries; summarize amounts due for employee purchases and submit to Human Resources for payroll deductions; process payments to the General Accountant. Prepare and distribute annual 1099 forms, send correspondence to maintain updated W‑9 forms, and file with IRS and the state of South Carolina. Close accounts payable monthly, review, correct and distribute reports; prepare all reconciliation and year‑end work. Provide assistance to auditors as requested. Maintain separate files for paid bills, special equipment purchases, substation invoices, fuel purchases for tax refunds, and scanned documents. Update consumer information; process payment requests for estates of deceased members; enter data, issue checks, file paperwork, and update member balances. Maintain professional demeanor, positive customer relations, and a clean workplace. The Cooperative reserves the right to revise or change job duties as needs arise.
