Job Title: Maintenance Assistant FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Director of Facilities & Maintenance Days per Year: 260 Job Location: District-wide Hours per Week: 40 Revision Date: February 11, 2026 Pay Range: Classified Salary Schedule- Maintenance Assistant Summary: Maintenance Assistants are responsible for the upkeep of school buildings through performing maintenance tasks, light custodial work, and groundskeeping. Maintenance Assistants work alone or with others to complete tasks and projects that keep the district facilities in safe and good repair. Primary Responsibilities: Assist maintenance technician and other assistants with maintenance tasks that may include custodial, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, paint repairs, etc. Light janitorial work as needed, to include emergency janitorial situations before custodial staff arrive Groundskeeping, to include mowing, trimming, planting, snow removal, and hauling debris/trash Drive a district vehicle to various worksites Follow all safety protocols and procedures when performing duties Shipping and receiving deliveries Work collaboratively with other department staff, school administrators and staff members to meet the needs of the district Maintain accurate equipment and maintenance records Appropriately test and operate all equipment and machinery as necessary Prioritize work and schedule work; meet schedules and timelines Ability to initiate and complete work orders, including notes in the descriptions for every work order Ability to operate small equipment such as bobcats, mowers, lifts, cleaning equipment, etc. Work independently or with a small crew depending on the size of a project Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all projects Serve as a positive role model for students and communicate a respectful atmosphere to visitors, staff, students, and community members with a focus on quality customer service Participate in meetings, trainings, and seminars required for job skills Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students, employees, and visitors in school buildings and grounds Any and all other duties as assigned Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent Previous custodial, groundskeeping, and/or maintenance experience preferred, but not required Criminal background check Valid Colorado Driver's license and ability to meet district insurability standards strongly preferred Ability to work outside of normal hours in emergencies (i.e. snow removal) Self-motivated, team player Salary and Benefits: The starting salary range for this position is $18.75-$20.25 per hour depending on previous maintenance/custodial/event setup experience. The district provides a PERA retirement plan, long-term disability, an optional supplemental 401(k) plan, and the ability to enroll in supplemental insurances and savings accounts through a third-party vendor. Weld RE-9 offers sick leave and personal leave. This position receives 10 days of vacation time per year after the first year of employment, and 15 days per year after 10 years of employment.
