POSITION SUMMARY
The AV Service Technician will provide service-level attention to meet customer needs, with keen foresight and knowledge to predict issues before they arise. You may be on point for all types of pre-and post-integration service and support. Your ability to communicate regularly and effectively with your customers, teammates, and internal resources will be paramount to your success.

You are comfortable with proactive communication and providing answers and status updates to the customers' questions before they ask. You are solutions-oriented and have the technical expertise to troubleshoot and diagnose issues and provide recommended solutions and alternatives that meet the customers' needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced Audio Visual Technical Manager to lead AV operations and projects supporting Federal Government and commercial clients . This role combines senior AV technical expertise, project management, technical solutioning, procurement, estimating, service delivery, customer consulting, and team leadership.
The ideal candidate is more than a traditional project manager or AV technician. This individual should be a seasoned AV professional who can manage complex projects, understand customer challenges, develop technical solutions, provide consulting guidance, troubleshoot sophisticated AV and network systems, and lead projects from concept through completion.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Team Leadership
- Manage multiple concurrent AV projects, including scope, schedules, resources, deliverables, risks, dependencies, and budgets.
- Lead and manage AV technicians, including scheduling, training, professional development, performance, and accountability.
- Manage projects from initial customer request through solution development, estimating, procurement, installation, implementation, testing, documentation, and closeout.
- Maintain project schedules, status reports, action items, technical documentation, and deliverables.
- Communicate project status, risks, issues, and recommendations to customers and leadership.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, manufacturers, and technical resources.
- Apply Agile and other project management methodologies when appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
AV Technical Solutioning & Consulting
- Serve as a trusted AV technical advisor to customers, stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Assess customer requirements and challenges and develop practical, reliable AV solutions.
- Determine appropriate equipment, systems, software, labor, services, and implementation requirements.
- Provide technical guidance for conference rooms, video conferencing, hybrid meetings, control systems, AV upgrades, modernization projects, and integrated technology environments.
- Translate customer requirements into technical solutions, estimates, proposals, bills of materials, and implementation plans.
- Bridge communication between customers, technicians, vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of AV design principles, system architecture, signal flow, and applicable technologies and protocols.
AV Operations, Installation & Service Delivery
- Oversee daily AV operations, preventative maintenance, service tickets, troubleshooting, repairs, and SLA performance.
- Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, install, terminate, configure, and optimize electronic equipment, including audio, video, sound, lighting, projection, conferencing, control, and related systems .
- Perform troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and optimize cabling, associated devices, computers, digital technology, and commercial off-the-shelf technologies in accordance with project scope and design.
- Ensure AV systems are reliable, properly configured, tested, documented, and operating to established standards.
- Support meetings, conferences, events, and high-visibility activities as required.
- Monitor service delivery and identify opportunities to improve reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Manage AV inventory, spare equipment, repairs, replacements, and technology lifecycle requirements.
AV, Video Conferencing & Networking Expertise
- Possess strong knowledge of AV design, signal flow, video conferencing, and network integration.
- Demonstrated knowledge of H.323, H.264, SIP, WebRTC, H.239/Duo-Video, video bridging, gateways , and related AV/video technologies.
- Experience supporting collaboration and conferencing platforms, including Webex, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams .
- Experience setting up, configuring, troubleshooting, and servicing commercial-grade networking equipment, including:
- Wireless Access Points (WAPs)
- Routers
- Wi-Fi bridges
- Managed switches
- VLANs
- Excellent knowledge of IP addressing schemes, networking fundamentals, and network integration within AV environments.
- Experience with IP cameras and IP access control systems .
- Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and servicing PTZ cameras .
Troubleshooting, Diagnostics & Customer Support
- Work directly with customers to investigate, troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical product and system problems.
- Analyze complex AV, electronic, electrical, mechanical, networking, and integrated technology issues.
- Identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
- Provide technical instruction and assistance to customer representatives regarding installation, operation, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance.
- Clearly explain technical issues and solutions to both technical and non-technical customers.
- Provide written, customer-ready documentation of all analysis performed, including root cause, corrective actions, recommendations, and resolution status .
- Ensure customer concerns are understood, addressed, documented, and followed through to resolution.
Procurement, Estimating & Vendor Management
- Develop equipment, labor, schedule, and cost estimates for AV projects.
- Obtain, review, and evaluate vendor and manufacturer quotes.
- Develop bills of materials, pricing, proposals, statements of work, and project documentation.
- Coordinate equipment procurement while balancing quality, cost, availability, and schedule.
- Maintain relationships with manufacturers, distributors, subcontractors, and industry partners.
- Leverage industry partners and subcontractors when additional equipment, expertise, or resources are required.
- Support standard equipment selections, manufacturer relationships, dealership partnerships, and training opportunities.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with Federal Government customers, Contracting Officer's Representatives (CORs), leadership, technical teams, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain strong customer relationships and proactively communicate project and service requirements.
- Navigate complex organizational structures, competing priorities, difficult customers, and politically sensitive environments.
- Provide clear, professional written and verbal communication at all organizational levels.
- Act as a primary technical and operational point of contact for assigned customers and projects.
- Build customer confidence through responsive service, technical expertise, and consistent follow-through.
Standards, Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and maintain AV standards, procedures, documentation, and best practices.
- Promote consistent system designs, equipment configurations, installation practices, and operating procedures.
- Review AV setups, system performance, installations, and project deliverables to ensure quality and compliance with design requirements.
- Develop and monitor performance metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Support continuous improvement of AV service delivery, operational efficiency, system reliability, and customer satisfaction.
- Stay current with emerging AV technologies, networking technologies, industry standards, manufacturer offerings, and best practices.
Strategic Support
- Collaborate with the Executive team on AV division initiatives, processes, standards, service offerings, and market positioning.
- Help identify opportunities to improve AV operations, customer service, efficiency, technical capabilities, and profitability.
- Provide technical and operational insight into future AV solutions, service offerings, equipment standards, and organizational needs.
- Support business development activities, technical solution development, proposals, estimates, and customer presentations as needed.
Required Qualifications & Technical Expertise
- Significant professional experience in commercial AV, integrated technology, AV service delivery, AV project management, or a related field .
- Strong hands-on knowledge of AV systems, installation, integration, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to lead AV projects from concept through design, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, documentation, and closeout .
- Strong understanding of AV signal flow, system design, networking, video conferencing, and integrated technology.
- Experience with Webex, Zoom, Microsoft Teams , and related collaboration platforms.
- Knowledge of H.323, H.264, SIP, WebRTC, H.239/Duo-Video, video bridging, and gateways .
- Networking experience with WAPs, routers, Wi-Fi bridges, managed switches, VLANs, and IP addressing.
- Experience with IP cameras, IP access control, and PTZ camera installation and servicing .
- Ability to troubleshoot electronic, electrical, mechanical, AV, and network-related equipment.
- Experience with AV cabling, termination, testing, installation, and optimization.
- Strong customer-facing communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, customers, vendors, and technical resources simultaneously.
- Experience working with Federal Government customers and/or commercial enterprise clients is highly desirable.
- Must hold both Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) and CTS-I certifications.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a hands-on AV technical leader with the ability to move comfortably between the field, customer environment, project management responsibilities, and executive-level discussions. They should be equally comfortable troubleshooting a complex AV or network issue, developing a technical solution, reviewing a bill of materials, managing a project schedule, directing technicians, working with vendors, and presenting recommendations to a customer or executive team.
This position requires a combination of technical depth, leadership, project management discipline, customer-service skills, business judgment, and strong communication abilities.
Required Qualifications
Education and Work Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of project management experience , with substantial hands-on responsibility for managing projects, schedules, resources, stakeholders, and deliverables.
- 10+ years of significant AV technical experience or an equivalent combination of AV technical and leadership experience.
- Federal Government experience is required.
- Demonstrated experience working with government customers, complex stakeholders, and/or difficult or high-visibility clients.
- Strong knowledge of AV systems, installation, integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Experience with video conferencing, hybrid meeting technology, and modern AV systems.
- Demonstrated ability to assess customer needs and develop effective AV technical solutions.
- Experience with estimating, procurement, vendor management, subcontractors, and project pricing.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-management experience.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with full command of English.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and project management/scheduling tools.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP certification preferred.
- AVIXA CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D, or other recognized AV certifications.
- Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Dante, or other manufacturer certifications.
- Agile project management experience.
- Experience supporting large-scale Federal facilities, programs, or venues.
- Experience with AV design, systems engineering, or solution architecture.

Work Location & Schedule
- Washington, DC — Hybrid
- Approximately 2–3 days onsite per week initially , with additional onsite presence as project needs require.
- The position will also support the FDA project and may require visits to White Oak, Maryland .
- Candidates located in Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, or nearby Maryland are preferred.
- Standard hours are generally 9:00 AM–5:00 PM , with occasional after-hours support for urgent issues, project deadlines, events, or restricted-access environments.

Physical Requirements:
