Key qualifications:

• Current Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Special Education teaching license for Secondary level
• Ability to obtain or complete Rhode Island Structured Literacy proficiency (Right to Read Act) within one year of hire
• Experience with high school students, particularly those with Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD) or significant behavioral needs, preferred
• Strong classroom management skills and a compassionate, student-centered approach
• Capacity for teamwork, communication, and rapport-building with students, families, and staff
• Commitment to supporting students in a “Self-Contained” or “Sub-Separate” classroom environment

Responsibilities include:

• Leading instruction for high schoolers in a specialized classroom setting
• Developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's strengths and needs
• Collaborating with support staff and related service providers
• Creating a structured, engaging, and positive learning environment to facilitate academic and emotional growth
• Collecting data on student progress and adjusting strategies accordingly
• Fostering strong communication with parents and guardians
