Job Title: RN Circulator Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Preferred previous RN circulator experience, perioperative 101 course, scrub experience License: Current RN license in State of Oregon Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC (preferred CNOR, CRASE training) Must-Have: Associate of Science in Nursing Description: The Registered Nurse specializes in perioperative nursing practice during the intraoperative surgical experience. Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-centered care in the operating room and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations. Acts as the patient advocate and is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned. Will be on call for the Surgery Unit on a regularly scheduled rotation. Accepts responsibility for the direction, control, and planning of activities. Makes evaluations and decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria. Works independently and implements the plan of care by: Protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources. Performing accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items. Performing interventions necessary to ensure procedures are performed on the correct site, side, and level. Managing patient specimens according to organizational policy and procedures. Communicating patient status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care. Administering medications safely and correctly. Performing interventions to maintain wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels. Performing interventions to maintain the status of the patient's various bodily systems and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances. Performing interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection. Protecting patient rights, dignity, and privacy. Providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice. Providing consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting. Documenting nursing care accurately, completely, and legibly. Collaborating effectively with other disciplines as applicable. Using problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members. Maintaining required competencies and pursuing professional growth. Participating in a professional organization. Acting as a patient advocate and maintaining privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information. Supporting the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. Participating in required education for relevant programs applicable to the position.
