We are seeking a skilled Tool Maker to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for constructing precision tools and tooling components to enable efficient manufacturing processes.Primary Responsibilities:
- Studies specifications, such as blueprints, models, sketches, or tool description, and plans sequence of operations.
- Measures, marks and scribes or programs metal stock to lay out work pieces for machining.
- Sets up and operates machine tools, such as lathe, milling machine, and grinder, to machine parts to specifications, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
- Positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable, using devices such as vises, V-blocks, and angle plates.
- Fits and assembles parts into assemblies or mechanisms, using hand tools.
- Verifies dimensions and alignment, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gages, gage blocks, and machine tools.
- Examines standard tools and modifies tools as required.
- Develops specifications from general descriptions and draws or sketches tool to be fabricated, using drafting tools or computer and software programs (if available).
- Trains workers in setup and operation of machine tools.
- May heat treat tools or parts.
- Communicates with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
- Inspects and measures parts.
- Adheres to corporate philosophies and procedures.
- Looks for improvements regarding all aspects of Manufacturing.
- Seeks support from Manufacturing Manager of Tooling, Foreperson or Job Leader when overburdened.Secondary Responsibilities:- Maintenance to machines and tools. Also may be appointed other maintenance duties in shop or on premises.
- Work with engineers to fabricate and implement changes in designs and details to make a successful product.
- Teaches and delegates work to apprentice Toolmakers.
- Coordinates purchasing of stock and purchased components.
- Debug support as required.
- Helps monitor employee’s actions to stay within company’s regulations and guidelines for Quality and Safety.Job Qualifications:
Training and Experience: Ten +years of trade school, vocational education, work experience or apprenticeship.- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers
- Hands-on experience with CAM programming and AutoCAD
- Familiarity with hand tools and tooling techniques
- Ability to interpret schematics and shop math calculationsSpecific Competencies:
- The employee is required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
- Exert 20 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or exert 10 to 25 lbs. of force frequently and/or exert up to ten pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Ability to handle changing priorities and multiple tasks.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Exercises good judgment.
- Ability to take direction.
- Ability to work independently.Work Environment:The employee is subject to high noise levels from operating machines, physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts, breathing fumes, dust and mist.
