Dusty’s flagship product, the FieldPrint Platform, uses robots to trace digital building plans directly onto the jobsite floor at full scale, making construction more like paint-by-numbers. This allows builders to construct buildings faster, with higher quality, and with more predictable cost.

Our growing team, primarily based in the Bay Area, supports a fleet of robots deployed on construction sites across North America, and our customers include some of the largest general contractors in the world.

Dusty Robotics is seeking an exceptional Vice President of Engineering to lead and scale the engineering organization through the company’s next phase of growth.

This is a highly strategic and hands‑on engineering leadership role. The VP of Engineering will partner closely with the CTO, Director of Product, and executive team to translate Dusty’s product and technology strategy into reliable execution across a multidisciplinary engineering organization spanning robotics, software, firmware, electrical, mechanical, cloud, AI, and related technologies.

The VP of Engineering will build on the foundation of planning cadence, roadmap visibility, ownership, and delivery process, maintaining and sharpening what works, retiring what no longer fits, developing strong engineering leaders. They will ensure the organization continues to deliver high‑quality products with the speed, creativity, and technical rigor required in a growth‑stage robotics company, without adding unnecessary bureaucracy.

Success in this role requires both technical depth and exceptional organizational leadership. The ideal candidate can earn the trust of highly capable engineers, engage deeply enough in technical discussions to guide critical decisions, and create an environment where engineers have the context, autonomy, and accountability to do their best work.

Dusty is building a new generation of software products that help our customers manage their layout workflows. The VP of Engineering will be a central voice in the architecture of those systems. We are looking for a leader with software depth, who can shape architectural direction for cloud and AI‑enabled products.

We also expect this leader to be fluent in how AI is changing engineering itself. The VP of Engineering will drive the adoption of AI tools and practices across the engineering organization in how we design, write, review, and test code, in how we document and share knowledge, and in how hardware and software teams work day to day with clear judgment about where AI creates real leverage and where it does not.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the engineering organization software, robotics, firmware, electrical, mechanical and own the roadmap, delivery cadence, and execution
• Shape the architecture of Dusty’s new cloud and AI products alongside the CTO and Director of Product
• Drive how engineering adopts AI: how we design, write, review, test, and document, and the standards that come with it
• Deliver Dusty's next generation of hardware systems engineered to perform reliably day after day on active job sites
• Hire, coach, and develop engineering leaders, and give strong engineers the ownership to do their best work
• Partner with Product, Operations, Manufacturing, Customer Success, and Sales to launch and support what customers depend on
• Serve on the executive team, connecting engineering decisions to customer and business outcomes

What You’ll Bring

• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations that are heavy in software and have robotics or hardware-enabled products, including managing managers
• Deep software background with the ability to own architecture for cloud and AI-enabled products
• Credibility with both hardware and software teams, and experience taking hardware products into commercial deployment
• Practical fluency with AI tooling and AI-built products, and judgment about how to best incorporate them into the engineering workflow
• A track record delivering complex products and programs against real milestones
• Judgment about the right level of process for a company our size, and a bias toward building on what already works
• A record of hiring exceptional engineers and developing leaders
• Clear communication with engineers, executives, and customers, and a strong product and customer mindset
