Travel RN - Neonatal ICU

American Traveler is seeking an experienced NICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract at a Level III high-risk acute care facility, requiring a minimum of 3 years of NICU experience and active NRP certification.

Job Details

• 27-bed Level III NICU within a high-risk acute care facility,
• Neonatal patient population including intensive, intermediate, and continuous care levels,
• Patient ratios follow AWHONN/NANN guidelines: 3-4 patients for continuous care, 2-3 for intermediate care, 1-2 for intensive care, and 1 for multi-system support care,
• Experience with ventilators and central lines is required for this unit,
• Charting performed in MEDITECH,
• 12-hour night shifts, 6:30 PM-7:00 AM or 6:30 PM-7:00 AM (facility shift times: 6:30-19:00 or 18:30-07:00),
• Every third weekend required, with potential for more coverage as needed,
• NICU nurses are expected to float to Mother-Baby or L&D to serve as baby/transition nurse for newborns and well babies,
• Occasional float to other areas of the facility as a safety advocate or for task support is possible,
• 2 extra shifts required per 6-week period,

Job Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required - pending licenses not accepted,
• Active BLS and NRP certifications required - pending certifications not accepted,
• Minimum 3 years of NICU experience required,
• Experience with ventilators and central lines required,
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and multitasking skills required,
• Ability to work independently with a neonatal patient population,
• Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius,
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire,
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position,

Additional Information

• A pass/fail, open-book skills exam is administered during orientation - a score of 90% or higher is required to continue the assignment,
• Orientation is approximately 12 hours,
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination,
• Navy scrubs required,
• The facility is a Level III high-risk setting with OB/GYN, Family Practice, Nurse Midwives, OB Hospitalists, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Neonatology, and 24/7 anesthesiology access, as well as neonatal transport services,
• Holiday coverage is expected on a rotating basis, with potential for additional coverage as needed,
• Candidates who have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity Health) within the past year are not eligible - candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
