Software Engineer, Product Experience

Defakto is hiring a Software Engineer, Product Experience to build the experiences through which users interact with our platform. This role extends beyond traditional frontend engineering, toward being a holistic owner of product interactions. You'll work across web applications, APIs, SDKs, CLI tools, and emerging AI-powered workflows to create cohesive experiences for security engineers, platform teams, and developers.

You'll partner closely with product, design, and engineering to transform complex identity and security concepts into intuitive products. The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering fundamentals with exceptional product instincts and a passion for crafting user experiences across multiple interfaces.

What you'll do:

• Build and evolve Defakto's user-facing experiences across web applications, APIs, SDKs, and CLI tools.
• Lead development of key product experiences, including our management portal and infrastructure management workflows.
• Design intuitive interfaces and visualizations for identity, access management, and security systems.
• Work across the stack to connect backend services and infrastructure capabilities with compelling user experiences.
• Create reusable components, patterns, and platform capabilities that enable teams to ship quickly and consistently.
• Ensure a cohesive experience across UI, CLI, SDK, and API interactions.
• Collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and engineers to define and deliver end-to-end product experiences.
• Help shape AI- and agent-driven workflows as new interaction models emerge.

What we're looking for:

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience working across multiple layers of the stack.
• Expertise building modern applications with React, TypeScript, and contemporary web technologies. Experience with Go, Python or Java is a plus since this work will span across a product.
• Strong product and UX instincts, particularly for complex technical products.
• Experience building tools for developers, platform engineers, security teams, or other technical users.
• Ability to simplify complex systems and infrastructure concepts into intuitive user experiences.
• Experience building performant applications that handle complex workflows and large datasets.
• Ability to move quickly, make sound engineering tradeoffs, and deliver high-quality products.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have:

• Experience building developer tools, infrastructure platforms, or enterprise SaaS products.
• Experience with APIs, SDKs, CLI tools, or infrastructure-as-code workflows.
• Experience with data visualization or real-time application experiences.
• Experience integrating AI capabilities into product experiences.
