Diablo Unified School District. Knowledge and Competencies Care and prevention of athletic injuries, basic first aid, and emergency procedures, demonstrated by: Completion of a college‑level course in the care and prevention of athletic injuries and possession of a valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) card Valid sports injury certificate or first aid card, plus CPR card Valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) I or II card Coaching Techniques Knowledge of coaching theory and techniques in lacrosse, evidenced by: Completion of a college course in coaching theory and techniques of lacrosse Completion of in‑service programs arranged by a school district or county office of education in lacrosse Prior experience as a student coach or assistant athletic coach in lacrosse Prior participation in organized competitive lacrosse at the high school level or higher Rules and Regulations Training and knowledge of rules and regulations in lacrosse, including North Coast Section rules, league rules, and California Interscholastic Federation regulations, and ability to communicate them effectively. Child or Adolescent Psychology Knowledge of child or adolescent psychology related to sports participation, evidenced by: Completion of a college‑level course in child or sports psychology Completion of a seminar or workshop on human growth and development of youth Prior active involvement with youth in school or community sports programs Additional Competencies for Non‑Certificated Personnel Not convicted of any offenses referenced in Education Code 44010, 44011, or 44424, or offenses involving moral turpitude or unfitness to associate with children. Free from tuberculosis and other contagious diseases, verified by a written statement renewable every four years from a licensed physician or approved person. No authority to give grades to students. Coaching duties/responsibilities not assumed prior to District receiving fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice. Code of Ethical Conduct Show respect for players, officials, other coaches, and parents. Respect the integrity and judgment of game officials. Establish and model fair play, sportsmanship, and proper conduct. Prioritize player safety and welfare. Provide an environment that instills teamwork, commitment, and discipline. Provide leadership that promotes a positive experience for the student athlete. Provide proper supervision of students at all times. Use discretion in providing constructive criticism and reprimanding players. Maintain consistency in requiring players to adhere to rules and standards. Properly instruct players in the safe use of equipment. Avoid exerting undue influence on a student's decision to enroll in an athletic program at any public or private postsecondary institution. Avoid encouraging athletes to use non‑prescriptive drugs or substances not approved by the Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Surgeon General, or American Medical Association.
