Your OpportunityThe role of the Geologist, Environmental Scientist, or Environmental Engineer is to perform tasks assigned from the Project Manager associated with environmental assessments, hazardous material surveys, hydrogeological studies, subsurface investigations, remediation, and monitoring projects; sampling of soil, soil vapor sediment, surface water, and groundwater; oversight of subcontractors; geologic mapping, soil/bedrock logging, maintaining site safety and security; production of maps; data interpretation/evaluation; and deliverable preparation.Your Key ResponsibilitiesParticipate in the implementation of small to large-scale soil assessment and mapping projects, from proposal development to project completion.Assist with environmental regulatory and permitting responsibilities, writing and reviewing technical reports, preparing environmental permit applications (i.e. well permits), and facilitating successful environmental permitting of multiple and varied projects.Prepare project deliverables, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, quarterly progress reports, work plans, sampling and analysis plans, health and safety plans, and technical memoranda or reports, in whole or in part, depending on the size and complexity of the document.Conducting and overseeing various environmental field activities.Participate in proposal preparation (work scope, task-level budgeting, cost estimates); may perform calculations, gather or review information, or prepare standard sections of proposals.Ensuring QA/QC and H&S requirements and procedures are identified and followed throughout a project's life cycle.Works with engineers and planners on environmental assessments and construction monitoring.Field work responsibilities may include: Phase I ESA site visits, Phase II environmental sampling, field inspections (ranging from indoor building inspections to remote areas requiring hiking), GPS surveys, soil and sediment sampling, soil vapor sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, oversee environmental drilling, soil logging, and stormwater inspections.Responsible for coordinating with subcontractors (such as analytical laboratories, private locators, and drillers) while performing office assignments.Experience with construction oversight and/or remediation system operation and maintenance activities a plus, but not required.May provide field and technical support on agency regulated projects.Conduct hazardous materials surveys and building inspections for asbestos, lead-based paint, PCBs, universal waste, and other regulated materials; document field observations, collect representative samples, coordinate laboratory analysis, and prepare clear survey findings and recommendations for client deliverables.May assist with the implementation and management of Brownfields projects.Office based technical work may include developing tables and figures using analytical data and topographic/site maps; drafting boring logs, preparing environmental reports, providing input for proposals and presentations; preparing drafts of various deliverable components; responding to client or regulatory comments for deliverables.Project management responsibilities include obtaining quotes from subcontractors; setting up task orders, preparing a scope of work, scheduling subcontractors, overseeing subcontractors in the field and implementing fieldwork within the proposed budget.Demonstrates sound application of established practices, standards and guidelines.May manage and review work of junior staff.Applies technical and business knowledge and methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues.Your Capabilities and CredentialsProficient in policies and procedures for health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) program, including client-specific training, leads by example, and applies these policies and procedures as appropriate to their work.Solid skills in technical writing.Ability to work independently with appropriate direction, exercise sound judgment in the field and office, seek guidance when needed, and incorporate feedback or lessons learned to improve future work.Observing and developing skills in communications and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia, as well as non-technical communication to the public.Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationshipsDrives collaborative efforts within the Business Center and beyond to deliver consistent, high quality and appropriately scoped technical work.At least five years of experience successfully executing technical aspects of small to large environmental projects.Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Earth, Adobe Acrobat required. Experience with Copilot, ARC GIS and Open ground desirable but not required.Must have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and demonstrated ability to safely drive to project sites, including in urban traffic, remote areas, and variable weather or field conditions.OSHA HAZWOPER 40 certification required.California experience conducting hazardous materials survey experience preferred, including surveys and asbestos inspections, suspect material sampling, field documentation, and coordination with California-certified laboratories. Candidate preferred; candidate must hold, or be willing and eligible to obtain, applicable asbestos survey credentials such as AHERA Building Inspector accreditation and, where required for California asbestos consulting services, work under a Cal/OSHA, where required, Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) or pursue CAC/CSST certification or work under a CAC as appropriate.Ability and willingness to obtain California Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD) and/or Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) certification, as applicable to project responsibilities, through the CASQA/State Water Resources Control Board Construction General Permit training and qualification process.Candidates assigned to sites with critical infrastructure, as determined by the United States Department of Homeland Security, will be required to successfully pass a government background check.Prior to employment, this position will require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical and background check.Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Geoscience, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. California licensure or certification such as Professional Geologist (PG), Geologist-in -Training (GIT), Professional Engineer (PE), Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or other applicable California environmental credential preferred, or willingness to obtain as appropriate for the role.Minimum 5-6 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experienceWorking hours will be spent in the office and field. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.#StayInquisitivePay Range:• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas-$88,700.00 - $128,600.00 AnnuallyPay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
