Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Responsibilities Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians. Collect patient histories. Perform physical examinations. Create treatment plans. Conduct diagnostics. Assist or perform dentistry services. Observe or assist in surgical procedures. Manage medical care of patients. Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Duration & Stipend Most externship experiences at Avon Lake Animal Clinic range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel or living expense stipend.
